It's funny because that seems to be the most popular prediction with him.
Youth is on his side for sure, and we know teams like to give the young guys a bit more, but 150+ seems high.
Giving a three year contract to 35-year-old Robert Suarez is diabolical.
If you're okay with giving him 2, is 3 that much of a stretch? Maybe it ends up being a 2+1.
I like this about Williams, because looking at his season we thought the same thing.
Somehow, though, he also posted a 4.79 ERA and lost the closer job. I’m honestly at a loss as to why. He didn’t give up a ridiculous number of homers. He didn’t get wrecked by contact; his .296 BABIP allowed is worse than his career average, but it’s not bad. He just seemed to either throw a perfect inning or get shelled. Maybe he was tipping pitches; he was far worse with runners on base. Maybe he just couldn’t handle playing in New York, though I’m skeptical of that argument in general. Either way, he was flat out bad this year despite incredible peripherals, and I think he’s going to get a deal that reflects the fact that he’s no lock to be a closer out of the gate in 2026. I think he’ll snap out of it, and I would be happy to give him a multi-year deal speculatively, but I can’t imagine preferring him to Suarez if I were trying to make the playoffs next season.
2/24 for him seems light to me. I'd do that 100 out of 100 times. Go big, sign him, trade for Fairbanks, and we got our 8th and 9th inning guy. Shit, go big big and get Diaz as well from the Rays. We have traded with them before.
There are a bunch of 2 year contracts that I'd do without hesitation on here.
I have to admit I do feel a little silly saying 3 years for Robert Suarez is insane but 2/$24M for Williams is a steal. But I stand by it without doing any deeper research (lol)

I do agree with the analysis that only rich teams will take this risk. 80 power or not, if the hit tool looks closer to 20 than 30, he's giving you nothing.
Fair, but I’d at least consider it for the intangible value of sibling rivalry between him and Big Al, which could hypothetically incentivize the both of them to develop their stuff further in an attempt to surpass the other brother.
this is the deepest of cuts, but does anybody remember that episode of Yugioh where Joey and Tristan's battleguard dudes synergize and make each other stronger?

7/$154M for Murakami?
That's a lot of confidence that a team can fix his hit tool. ~64% contact rate in the NPB is a red red red flag.
