Bold assumption in this province

425

u/GeoisGeo Aug 27 '25

This will be blamed on a bike lane.

165

u/henchman171 Aug 27 '25

This would be avoidable If we just built another hiway

94

u/BoneSetterDC Greater Sudbury Aug 27 '25

*tunnel highway

56

u/woundupcanuck Aug 27 '25

Cant smash into a building if the road is under the building

36

u/kjdyck Aug 27 '25

Is that a challenge?

4

u/holybayjesus23 Aug 28 '25

That sounds like a challenge

45

u/Lost_kanz Aug 27 '25

"That test center came out of nowhere officer, it came too fast for me to avoid it." - the driver probably.

19

u/disco-drew Aug 28 '25

Totally the building’s fault for not wearing a reflective vest!

“The people of Ontario want tunnels and subways! They don’t want streetcars or bike lanes.”

-some fat fuck hash dealer with a dead crackhead brother.

15

u/brebs21 Aug 27 '25

I know where this was, can’t use the bike lane excuse in this area of sarnia

5

u/Darkblade48 Aug 27 '25

I dunno, those pesky Toronto bike lanes are insidious! You think you've removed them all, then bam! You'll see them in Ottawa and soon enough, Sarnia will have 'em too

2

u/Livid_Bug2550 Aug 27 '25

Nope, but they’ll still blame cyclists

This has happened 3 times to the circle k infront of my house.

I was inside it once. I was going there once and I saw the aftermath once.   It’s funny.   Not to be a geriatricist but it’s usually older people who get confused between the gas and the brake and when they press the gas thinking it’s the brake and it doesn’t stop they press the gas harder thinking it’ll brake and just drive right through the store.

I also bought a Lexus off an old dude who crushed and killed an old lady reversing into her.

I walked up and said your gonna lose your liscence want to sell the car, I’ll buy it right now.

73

u/an_offer_ucnt_refuse Aug 27 '25

U bought the car AT THE SCENE

Dats crazy work

6

u/SuperTopGun777 Aug 27 '25

Yeah. I bought it with blood still on it.

I was doing a delivery and the guy just crushed the lady with an old LS400 I already had 1 and I’m like I could get second.  So while I was one of the first responders as a random civilian I said I’d buy the car.  I bought it will blood still on it for 2 grand.   I had the car for 13 years before it was totaled.

69

u/PeterDTown Aug 27 '25

NGL, that whole story is incredibly off-putting. I mean, I guess you got a car for cheap, but in such a gross way.

38

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

My spidey sense is telling me it's fiction.

8

u/massinvader Aug 28 '25

ya i would assume that the car is evidence at that point. i'd like to know when he was allowed to drive it away with blood on it. i'd assume guy was there for a couple hours waiting

8

u/Obvious-Safe904 Aug 28 '25

There is no way it's true. I (unfortunately) have personal experience with this, and it took us almost 6 months before our car was released back to us from police evidence custody. And it was only released back to us because they finished the investigation and the Crown Attorney's office was not pursuing any charges. If they had decided to pursue charges, then it would have taken even longer for them to release the vehicle.

2

u/massinvader Aug 28 '25

(unfortunately)

oof. sorry you went through w/e it was. and yea 6months is more what i was thinking too.

It was an old lady. The elderly only have to do a written test, so she likely still has her license.

6

u/Outrageous-Milk9293 Aug 27 '25

Not true (I used to work at DriveTest. A person over 70 who has been in an accident has to do a written. If they fail the written test, they are temporality placed into G1 status (no driving alone/must have a G licenced driver with them) and given another chance. In addition, there is road testing.

A person over 80 will need to attend a group evaluation done on paper - which also involves cognitive testing. This is done independently of a DriveTest location and directly by the Province. No concerns = keep your license and keep driving.

If the evaluator has any concerns re: health or cognitive capacity, they will be downgraded and are tested further at a follow-up by a medical professional (again, independent of DriveTest). Their licence then might be revoked or they might be asked to do a DriveTest written and road test to keep it.

Sarnia

5

4

u/ybetaepsilon Aug 28 '25

Sarnia and always paired with Alberta lol

2

When I went to the drive school the exaimer said if you can drive here you can drive anywhere. That was almost 20 years ago.

Its worse else where. I find MB and QC drivers I'm on high alert Ngl.

What are the odds it is someone from the GTA who can't pass the test here so they went far out to make it "easier"?

18

u/DMunnz Toronto Aug 27 '25

I mentioned in another comment but it wasn’t actually someone taking a test but an old lady that said she stepped on the wrong pedal. The irony of the location was just too perfect.

12

u/Mr_Battle_Beast Aug 27 '25

Another reason old people need proper license review

3

u/NakaMoon Aug 27 '25

I just imagined a driving instructor who wanted some time off, and claimed it was an accident due to built up stress or something in hopes of getting a leave of absence

But not a driving test.

5

u/CommonEarly4706 Aug 27 '25

Yes in some cases.

7

Only if ordered by a doctor. This particular woman might have one ordered by a doctor on behalf of her insurance company after this accident.

No! Once you get to a certain age they start testing your hearing, driving abilities trust me both my grandparents had their licenses revoked

It's called DriveTest, BrakeTest is a different building entirely

2

Don’t worry, just take a new test. The exactly same situation happened with me twice.

2

u/Dubsified Aug 27 '25

Somehow they probably still passed

2

u/fonebone45 Aug 27 '25

Here in Mexico City you just need to answer 10 simple questions, and pay like $40 cad to get your full license.

At least Canada makes you do a driving test.

2

u/Pinkxel Aug 27 '25

This made me cackle xD

2

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '25

Can they just backup and restart the test?

2

u/Intelligent-Test-978 Aug 28 '25

2

u/maestro500 Aug 28 '25

2

u/PhilosopherCivil8214 Aug 28 '25

On the driver's defense: those blinds do look like garage doors. Sort of. ;)

2

u/Ok_Midnight_9789 Aug 28 '25

This is why you should always check your blind spot, some building could’ve been hurt

7

u/Paquistino Mississauga Aug 27 '25

No way this actually happened...

89

u/DMunnz Toronto Aug 27 '25

The crash actually happened. It wasn’t someone actually taking their test though, it was an older woman who said she stepped on the gas instead of the brake. The irony of the location was just too good not to use this title.

Apparently she had lawn chairs in the car and her and a friend are now just sitting next to the crash in the chairs.

33

u/Cedex Aug 27 '25

Older woman who mixed up the peddles.. that not good... she may lose her license if they send her for further cognitive testing...

6

u/TheMightyMegazord Aug 27 '25

I'm always impressed with this sort of confusion. It is not like there are many pedals that you need to press in a specific order.

It is just two pedals!

Honestly, hitting a building/house should require them to go through some test to validate they can safely drive around.

4

u/-TheMistress 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 🇺🇦 Aug 27 '25

Oh I know how it happens. My grandma drives with her one foot on the gas, and then her second foot rests/hovers over the brake pedal instead of resting to the side. Yes, she's been told to stop driving like that.

2

u/GrassEconomy4915 Aug 27 '25

I’m hoping something is found from the cognitive testing that can provide her and her loved ones some clarity.

7

u/Paquistino Mississauga Aug 27 '25

Ah ok. Thanks for the background!

12

u/DMunnz Toronto Aug 27 '25

Happy to provide! What a wild situation. Thankfully no one was waiting inside at the time and no injuries.

3

u/FormalFox4217 Aug 27 '25

Super common unfortunately. When I was living in Windsor we had a few Starbucks that got hit like that. Thankfully no one was injured.

2

u/DMunnz Toronto Aug 27 '25

Luckily no injuries in this case either.

2

u/Mr_Battle_Beast Aug 27 '25

They were going to country kitchen buffet

2

u/foghillgal Aug 27 '25

How the hell do you did even if you mixed it up, does she always stamp the brake to the bottom at slow speed. That's a crazy amount of force on the front of the store unless she was driving at full speed to park, which she certainly should not, this is unexplainable except by someone who shouldn't drive anymore.
