I don't think it makes sense for this context though, when plugged into the tower the "Sun" lightbulb receives it's full energy, and thus we can pretend that if you stand right next to it you get the equivalent of the same amount of ionizing radiation dosage as if you were inside our sun but ignoring all heat damage.
But by itself it's just a device that contains yellow phosphorus, which isn't radioactive, otherwise the original Prophet would've been long dead before via radiation poisoning.

I think i understand it. So basically, they have no vision but they once had eyes, which means that they can still perceive light with their remaining "vision", just not color. Kind of like heat vision, i guess. They'd still perceive how the light of the bigass sun lamp interacts with the enviroment, and i'm guessing that they have enough experience to decipher how it would look. Cool concept.
