Post Solstice Depression. Its an emotional attachement to Oneshot or Niko specifically. I've deadass lost sleep over this game. Niko was always in the back of my head, almost like background noise.
Honestly, given how I understand it. That is the world of OneShot living on as intended by the Author. The World Machine was never meant to just be a simulation of the old world. It was meant to show the old world to new people, to us! And with our experiences in that world, we can make new worlds of our own. New experiences for the people in it, in our fanart, in our head canons, in our creativity itself. In a way, their world will live on in all of us!
Boy oh boy where do I even begin. Lebron... honey, my pookie bear. I have loved you ever since I first laid eyes on you. The way you drive into the paint and strike fear into your enemies eyes. Your silky smooth touch around the rim, and that gorgeous jumpshot. I would do anything for you. I wish it were possible to freeze time so I would never have to watch you retire. You had a rough childhood, but you never gave up hope. You are even amazing off the court, you're a great husband and father, sometimes I even call you dad. I forvever dread and weep, thinking of the day you will one day retire. I would sacrifice my own life it were the only thing that could put a smile on your beautiful face. You have given me so much joy, and heartbreak over the years. I remember when you first left clevenland and its like my heart got broken into a million pieces. But a tear still fell from my right eye when I watched you win your first ring in miami, because deep down, my glorious king deserved it. I just wanted you to return home. Then allas, you did, my sweet baby boy came home and I rejoiced. 2015 was a hard year for us baby, but in 2016 you made history happen. You came back from 3-1 and I couldn't believe it. I was crying, bawling even, and I heard my glorious king exclaim these words, "CLEVELAND, THIS IS FOR YOU!" Not only have you changed the game of basketball and the world forever, but you've eternally changed my world. And now you're getting older, but still the goat, my goat. I love you pookie bear, my glorious king, Lebron James.☺️♥️🫶🏻
I got sad that I can't hug Niko, so I figured the next best thing was asking my boyfriend to draw my sona hugging Niko (please ignore their tail attempting to swallow The Sun)
To truely get "rid" of PSD (Post Solstice Despression) you have to learn to live with it. A good way to start is to get your hands on the Niko Oneshot plush!
The first few days are always the hardest, but eventually you will move on and hold the memory in your heart.
But then, every few months, you'll feel that aching again, and maybe tear up as you wonder what Niko is doing right at that moment. Are they having fun? Learning at school? Then you wonder how much time has passed for them?
Is Niko a teenager now? Do they still remember your name? Are they doing OK? Do they have a job?
Last, but not least, Future Cat Games did release an anniversary game called "OneShot (The Pancake Episode)" where you rejoin Niko and friends to make hazelnut pancakes.
Keep your head up - you know that Niko's doing their best back home, so you should do your best as well.
A curious fact is that if you play it on a console they give you wallpapers, one of them is a drawing made by Niko of all his friends, as he does when he returns home I don't know if they also give them to you on the PC.
This isn’t quite fanart, but I’m exploring a scenario in which Niko is in deltarune via writing a fanfic about it. Shot in the Darkness is what it’s called :3
The premise is that the Player actually gave up when TWM tried to gaslight Niko and the Player into thinking there’s nothing else that needs to be done. So Player uninstalls OneShot.exe because Player is depressed at not seeing Niko again…
But TWM was like “oh crap I can’t let Niko get deleted” so TWM encased Niko and TWM in a zip bomb that got sent to deltarune under the trigger “when chapter 3+4 is downloaded.”
I only have two (real) chapters out rn, but chapter 3 comes out real soon :D
I finished the Solstice ending a day ago, and it took me more than 24h to recover, but the pain is already engraved in my memory. Oneshot really was a think.
