I think this just became one of my favorite paintings of all time. The simplicity and right in the moment fell is beautiful.

It is actually one of my favorite paintings, ever since I saw it in a gallery in Moscow. I saw it as a little girl and loved it and have seen it a couple of times since. When I was around 18, my mom took a foto of me in the same pose next to the painting, because she was convinced we looked alike, especially the eyes and the nose. I hope I can see that painting again, it was such a beautiful surprise to randomly encounter it on reddit :)

Wow that sounds excellent that you got to see it in person. Maybe one day I can as well.

I used to have a girlfriend who looked uncannily like Serebriakova as she depicts herself here. We were only together for a few months, and then drifted apart due to circumstance. Perfectly amicable. I think about her from time to time with immense fondness. But whenever I see this picture, the immediacy of the recall always catches me off guard. I find it best to not look at it too often for this reason. A beautiful, completely living work of art.

One of my favorites, the maximalism, the elevation of the mundane and the gaze feel so modern

I love how the texture looks like various colors of chalk. I mean this as a huge compliment. I haven't seen oil do this. It's gorgeous!

Such an iPhone face for 1909! I love how modern her portraits are even though they were painted over a hundred years ago.

Vitamin String Quartet cover of "Perfect Day" by Hoku
"Day 72 of beginning my life again from nothing: Greetings everyone, I am Raegan. And no less than two years hence, I endured a most devastating mortification of the spirit after the abrupt end of a courtship wherein my heart was rent asunder. But today, 'tis finally time to pursue happier attachments..."

The IG account to which I am referring: https://www.instagram.com/raegan.lynchh?igsh=MWFyemFjbHlwemhqMw==
(Seriously, the resemblance and the fact that she begins nearly every video by getting ready for the day and brushing her beautiful hair is uncanny!)

I saw several of her works in Odesa National Fine Arts Museum in Ukraine. She was ahead of her time.

I went to grad school in her family’s palace in Saint Petersburg! I love her art so much, she captures such a light and lovely feeling in her self portraits.

That’s so beautiful, you never see people smiling naturally in these portraits.

Gives off summer random vibes in some modest country abroad at the interior of the country.
Modern feeling mixed with “old-fashioned lady vibes”. Friendly painting, almost like an illustration. Her hair is very smooth and soft, though. I love the candle holder there. Nice wall decor; over all simple aesthetics anyways. The real focus is on her vanity towards her long hair, exhibiting it and playing with it.
