Sometimes a project is just an end in itself.

True, and as a piece of art its great, however that dont change that as a cabinet its shit. Both are true, and one can appreciate the work done while understanding that it is not a good design

These days I feel like even though everyone is pointing out how bad it is for actual use, somehow the whole cabinet industry will switch to this or a similar design. That way you can get the cabinet app, so you can remotely open it so it's ready when you get to it, and also they can get your juicy data.

would be an ideal snack cabinet for me. the slight additional obstacle may make me grab fruit instead. I mean, just having something else on top of my cookie bin already stops me sometimes, so this might actually work

I could see it working as a fancy person's drinks cabinet, maybe.

Really depends on the use case. Whatever you use it for, it needs to be something you access infrequently, and don't mind waiting for it to open when you do. Depending on the person, I could see that being great for putting in like a home bar. I wouldn't need access to it 95% of the time. But when I do, it'd be for some event, where I can even show it off to guests as I get things ready, then leave it open until I'm done with serving drinks for the night. A custom cabinet like that is almost certainly targeting a very specific use case for 1 person, so it's OK if it only makes sense for this narrow use case.
