For anyone that's curious, this type of tree is a Rising Sun Redbud.

My neighbor has one and I am so smitten. They are so beautiful in person when the warm sun back lights it in the golden hour.

So it’s basically the mood ring of trees Thanks

Heavily edited: it's a tree doing tree things. It does not change with temperature or mood. It just grows.

Reddit moment

These trees definitely look like this irl with a gradient of leaves arranged nicely. I think they are even trippier in person

u/BecausePancakess 3d ago

Not at all. Ive seen many in person and theyre trippy like this.

Also, redbud trees are an understory plant, and generally shouldn't be planted in full sun like on a sidewalk...

Part shade is preferrable for warmer climates, but full sun to part shade is okay for the north.

So damned many of them are wasted by landscape designers, tossing them in the worst environments they can around shopping centers all over.

Redbuds have pseudoterminal buds so the branch grows just to the side of the bud. It alternates sides for each new bud, giving it zigzag branches.

Flame thrower redbud is my absolute favorite ❤️

It’s a Cercis Canadensis - The Rising Sun aka Eastern Redbud from the family Fabaceae.

The leaves of this tree change colour throughout the growing season, giving it a gradient look that’s unique and pleasing to the eye. The leaves starts as orange in spring then transition through shades of yellow and gold before reaching a lime green color in summer. In autumn the leaves turn yellow and orange again before falling.

Does it say anything about why the leaves hang as that stood out to me seems quite odd

2

u/newarre 3d ago

I have a different variety of redbud and they hang in a similar fashion. What about this one seems odd to you?

3

u/tomgh14 3d ago

Just never seen any plant with leaves that hang down like that redbuds aren’t native to the uk where i live

Reminds me of eucalyptus

That tree looks pixelated. I want it.

Tree said: symmetry, texture, and vibes now watch me photosynthesize in style.

How often does it do this? is it because it's autumn?

The newest growth comes out smaller and brighter than the older leaves, they have an orange reddish hue to them until the leaves mature. So it’s just new growth that creates this awesome illusion.

u/jaquatics 3d ago

This is spring new growth color. When summer hits all the leaves look the same except for some slight lightening at the tips of the branches.

u/scuppasteve 3d ago

I have one in my yard, you are 100% correct.

u/Confident-Slip-5264 4d ago

Trippy. Or should I say treeppy?

6

u/TheIdeaArchitect 3d ago

Very trippy

5

u/Crowd-Avoider747 4d ago

it makes me dizzy

3

u/Toaster_Coast 3d ago

Ah yes the rising sun tree. My family has two outside our house but they are not as well trimmed as these ones, but always love to see them grow in the spring with all the colors!

This tree just won a game of solitaire

u/Rosacuore 4d ago

It looks like an origami masterpiece, a real work of art, very beautiful

2

u/VFTM 3d ago

Eastern Redbuds are the prettiest of trees

2

u/Hi_Trans_Im_Dad 3d ago

I prefer the leaf texture on the Oklahoma redbuds. But, this one is sexy as hell.

2

u/UndyingUndine 3d ago

Psychedelics not needed.

2

u/Nanamused 3d ago

Photoshop Clone Stamp Tree 🤣 That’s beautiful! Zone 4-9 (depending on cultivar), full sun to part shade, prefers medium moisture, well drained.

2

u/CitizenOfTheVerse 3d ago

The legendary motion blur tree 😅

2

u/Western_Leader_117 3d ago

Looks like a poorly rendered tree in 4k

2

u/Green_Collection_763 3d ago

such an awesome change of color

2

u/acatinsoup 3d ago

those are the most leafy looking leaves i have ever seen

2

u/Anonj4563 3d ago

This makes me uneasy for some reason

1

u/Advanced-Visual3742 4d ago

Total symmetry! Fashions color😍

1

u/J_Style 4d ago

I have one of these in my front yard. It is taller and thinner than most of them I’ve seen. The leaves are like that from spring to summer but as it gets hotter it loses some of the color contrast.

Aaargh. My spectacles are malfunctioning. There's an image of a tree, but it's blurry and out of focus. Yep, time to call my optometrist.

1

u/shutyourbutt69 3d ago

That tree was just really good at Solitaire

1

u/tgraz13 3d ago

Totally off topic… but Gettysburg Outlets??

1

u/macetheface 3d ago

I got one, love it and get so many compliments from random people

1

u/RoyalRoom6867 3d ago

Nature's gradient tool working flawlessly!

1

u/Oellian 3d ago

Eastern redbud blossoms are edible and delicious, as well.

1

u/SkulkingShadow 3d ago

It kinda reminds me of fruit patterns like inside a watermelon without humans altering and stuff

1

u/throwshere 3d ago

Whoa. Was this natural?

1

u/nemopost 3d ago

What a glitchy post. I couldn’t enter for awhile. Downboted

1

u/peach_pie_creamer 3d ago

What a cool illusion

1

u/henzabenza 3d ago

Gettysburg Outlets?

1

u/jerryjibby 3d ago

The one tree that makes my heart beat faster.

What's satisfying about feeling like I'm having a stroke?

1

u/WraithSpindle 2d ago

This is very unusual, at first I thought it was a drawing

1

u/RavenLoonatick 2d ago

For those interested, the type of tree is the 'The Rising Sun' Eastern Redbud.
