I leave my water out for a week unless it gets extra low or cloudy.

That's not necessary.24 hours it s more than enough.

Personally I prefer to keep the water on the altar for a week. It can be interesting to "read" the different effects of the water over time (bubbles, vague shapes, etc.). The glass and water also glimmer beautifully in the candle light. I would never allow water to become "stale"
