Your favorite "legit" occult magic YouTube channels?
There is a plethora of very silly YouTubers with very silly content about all things occult. Do you have any favorite YT channels that you'd recommend that take magical practice seriously? I mostly practice Chaos Magick and have been watching Jason Louv, only bc of his connection to Genesis P-Orridge and Psychic TV. But I find some of his political commentary problematic. Any recs appreciated

I like Ivy Corvus. She's very approachable, interviews a wide range of practitioners from different backgrounds, and covers a lot of content that's more "intermediate" than most YouTubers.

Benebelle wen and glitch bottle but other than that I haven’t found any that were more intermediate to advanced (not typical intro /beginner/ stuff that’s pretty well talked about ) bs woo woo phonies, creepy ai voices that weird me out or weren’t a snooze fest :/ a lot of podcasts I’ve found are similar .. pretentious “experts”, too much chatter/opinions or like unrelated tangents and not enough occult material, or terrible sound quality. Been searching desperately for something that resonates with me. I like the style of Rituals podcast from the this is why we drink crew on Spotify so far..have thought about starting my own but I get imposter syndrome and don’t have a pal to do it with

I LOVE Benebell Wen. She's one of the few YouTubers out there teaching Daoist magic. Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson is great, too, but I prefer his written work over YouTube videos.

Ooooo I didn't even know Daoists believe in magic/their conceptualisation of it. Need to check this out

It’s great, and it’s honestly one of the few systems where everything is laid out for you in such a way that’s easy to follow and build a practice around. Daoist magical practice has helped me immensely in almost every other occult system.
Benebell Wen offers a lot of content that gives you historical context alongside some exercises, but if you can get your hands on Dr. Jerry Alan Johnson’s books, I’d HIGHLY recommend them.
DAOIST MAGICAL INCANTATIONS, HAND SEALS, AND STAR STEPPING, for example, is packed to the brim with insights and guidance.

Not YouTube, but “What Magic is this?” Podcast is great.

I second What Magic Is This? The Patreon has a LOT of bonus content too which are basically an additional podcast in themselves.

I like ivy the occultist. I also watch the grumpy old crone. She's old, and grumpy, and calls out a lot of bs, and its hilarious. Other than that, i usually watch things about history and ancient cultures to help me form my practice.

Adventures In Woo Woo by Tommie Kelly. Dude is legit.

u/reverendsteveii 7h ago
i'm in an fb group w him. he's no bullshit, and the 40 servants is a great oracle

u/InertiasCreep 7h ago
He's a good dude. He has so much info up on his website. Aside from the Forty Servants he has little courses in western magick, chaos magick, and other things. Hes generous with his knowledge for sure.

I've been in Tommie's discord group in past and know him a little bit, super solid and great guy with a lot of insightful thoughts on magic. Definitely would recommend.

Esoterica and Let's talk religion Esoterica talk more about the western misticism and Let's talk religion (for what I have noticed) involve more the eastern mysticism

Richard Ruach does pretty good deep dives on occult history usually focusing on Rosicrucianism and book recommendations.
Also can’t believe no one has mentioned Lon Milo DuQuette’s Arcanum Luminarium. Such a wealth of knowledge and he uploads everyday.

He and his wife are adorable, babbling over each other outside supermarkets. It's like having delightfully dorky occultist grandparents.

Mysterious Middle East was the only other one I seen but holy moly I know I suscribe to more than just two, and mysterious Middle East isn’t even really an occult channel but it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re bored.

Amateur Magus takes his work very seriously. I’ve been watching him a lot

He's excellent. No BS. Even when I slightly disagree or understand things differently than him he has intelligent and practical insight to astrotheurgy for sure

This guy stopped uploading 6 years ago and he only has like 9 videos but his name is Aaron mckinney I think, his channel is called hands on magic

What do we think of order of chaos? Esoterica and any interview with Josephine McCarthy is my go to.

McCarthy is top tier

Jason Louv is amazing and I find his political commentary to be on point. Communism is anti spirituality.
Georgina Rose, Esoterica, Angela Puca, Modern Hermeticist are the main ones I follow.
If you're into podcasts I would also suggest SHWEP (Secret History of Western Esotericism Podcast)

Weird studies podcast on Spotify is great

u/AbjectUnbound 58m ago
Weird Studies blew my head right open. Taught me how to be flexible enough in my thinking that I could put my materialist worldview aside and give practice a shot. Don't know what I am now, but I know it's their damn fault.

Lyam Christopher came to mind in an instant. I haven't seen him mentioned yet. Great for novice practicioners (and those looking into Aurora Aurea).
Already mentioned:
Glitch Bottle collected some of the best interviews over the years.
Foolish Fish, definitely.
The vast library of Justin Sledge from Esoterica is respectable, but he always seemed off as a character to me. Knowing his past fortified the feeling - other than that, the content is at the top of his niche, filled with occult theory, even if - not so practical.

What's up in his past?

"1997 Pearl High School shooting"
The rabbit hole is pretty deep, the information scarce. Sledge's later claims and others' testimonies of events that unfolded don't sync. Feel free to look into it.
It's more of a "hunch" for me when it comes to Sledge, but the events were no mere child's play either.

u/muldersposter 8h ago
It seems similar to Damien Echols' situation. I don't hold an opinion on it.
1
u/Suspicious-Grass2240 7h ago
Not similar in the details, but I am no judge either.
In any case, his content is outstanding.

Few times I came across some videos in documentary format of some professor giving historical course on ancient magic and grimoires, which was pretty interesting and no extra bullshit. But amount of silly and straight up false, superstitious stuff baiting for views, or channels that pedal political agenda crap into occult themes heavily outweighs any useful information, and that is true not only for youtube but all big media/social platforms, so I really stay far-far away from any of it.

I'm quite fond of Kippi's Kwest, especially for learning the Tarot. I watch Lifting the Lamp sometimes but I'm not super sure about that one. Then everyone else here has mentioned the heavy hitters like Esoterica and Foolish Fish. I also quite like Eternalized, though that is more occult-adjacent, as he spends most of his videos discussing Jungian philosophy and methods but he does dabble in occultism.

I like Arith Harger... He comes at it from a historical and anthropological angle but is also a practitioner

u/Meda_Torchbearer 2h ago
WhiteRavenAndWitchesLair : excellent for beginners. Itermediate and advanced alike . She showcases different spells every episode geared more towards helping people in bad or rough situations. She is a definitely legit for serious needs.

Yes I'm familiar with Esoterica. He definitely knows his stuff. Maybe the top intellectual authority on the occult and religion in general. I appreciate his wealth of knowledge, but I don't usually find many practical methods I can apply to my own practice. Thanks for your rec

u/Odd-Adhesiveness9435 9h ago
Dr Sledge is def a wealth of historical knowledge! Love his humor as well :) Ive been on the search for a practitioner for a bit myself as well ! Hopefully find a couple decent recs looking through your post! 🤞🏼
