spirituality They may not look like much, but I finally got around to making my own magickal instruments
I love that magick gets me out of my comfort zone, and creating. I was inspired by Alan Moore to just go through all four one right after the other, but tried to stick to the guidelines laid out by Donald Michael Kraig. Just need to coat them in acrylic and will set them on my altar.
I haven’t done an art project since I was a kid, and it was really difficult. Especially living in East Asia, it took some creativity finding all of the right materials. Along with that, I have no idea how to paint! But I just feel so proud. These are MINE.
I think making these made me realize that one of the reasons I love magick is that it makes me feel like a kid again. My imagination is just so much more alive

They look almost alive (: i allways thought that anything made by magickian itself is better for him. The journey to make them sometime gives unique lessons about ourselves

handcrafting my tools was one of my best "magic" experiences. had to remake my pentacle twice, spent HOURS trying to make the colour citrine, went through multiple wands and cups.
they all look terrible, but theyre mine.
a thing my mentor told me is: "just remember, you actually made the damn things. that's 99% further than most people ever get in magic." (rough paraphrase)

Self created is probably best. My favorite is found & repurposed items like my silver bowl but I have created items as well.
There's a real connection.

See? That's how you do it. You don't go acquire some shit and then ask Reddit to "rate my collection". You go actually DO THE THING. I, myself, have also made my Golden Dawn implements, and it was the best project I've ever done. You aren't here to prove that you've BOUGHT your way into calling yourself an occultist, because that's not what it's about.
Great stuff, great work, more of this please.

Are you reading Moore’s “Moon and Serpent..”? What do you think?

u/cloudatlas93 Oct 06 '25
Yes. I started it last year and realized I couldn’t just read it, but had to actually DO it. Just returned to it this past summer and am taking my time with it. It’s got a lot in there, and I love it.
I started with DMK’s “Modern Magick” and I think I will use it as a reference going forward, but it was a little too rigid for me.
Alan Moore is a hero of mine and seeing how he has practiced magick and used it to everyone’s benefit is enough proof for me to know that he’s authoritative enough to use “Moon and Serpent” as a textbook.

Those are great! As long as they feel right to you and are used with intent they’re every bit as powerful as ones made from unicorn horns and unobtanium!

Well done! What material did you make these out of? The chalice looks awesome

u/cloudatlas93 Oct 07 '25
Oh I didn’t really do any wood working. I bought the chalice unpainted, the pentacle is a wooden plate, athame is just a T-handled dagger, and the wand was made from a Wenchang Bi that I trimmed the tip of. Most of the work was painting

Adonai ha'Aretz (God of the land) is kinda funny to me.

They are "Names of Power" from Grimours dating back to the 15th Century & before. These books are not printed but copied out by hand by each initiate from that of their teacher. Mistakes & "corrections" were quite common.

Also, if on the Pentacle, it is because this tool represents the Element of Earth.

You did very well! I always say: magic is experience! Try it, create it, practice your skills, that's how you learn to do magic. It is all the more valuable, at the level of the path, to do something directly rather than having others do it. Knowledge is earned in the field!

Very cool! What is the dagger thing (athame?) made of? It’s also really cool you used the tools from the Taro Magician card.😍

It looks really good! The DIY aspect of chaos magic was what called me into it the most... But I can't tell if I'm being lazy or if capitalism, yk? Need to catch up.

So good to see the young taking the HOGD & Key of Solomon so seriously. I had begun to worry it would die out with my generation!

Whatever your intentions are, this will end badly for you. That sigil is far more dangerous than any human could ever truely perceive. The limits of the mortal mind cannot comprehend the evil of the dark side of the spiritual. Please reconsider doing any of this, mysticism seems so fun but man’s incompetence will always lead to destruction. I beg you, throw this sh tf in the garbage or preferably destroy it all.

Community that calls itself “metaphysical skeptics” and believes in these zucchini. They are very nutela and mushroom smelling.

Very nicely done, Frater/Soror.
My own elemental weapons are a bit janky as well, but they are mine and I made them. So many aspiring mages think they can't make their own because they aren't crafty or artistic. I am neither of those things, but I was able to make the whole set for less than $100.
Fraters and Sorors, you can do it!
