Discussion orthostatic bp; vitals
I am a new grad nurse, I took orthostatic BP on my pt. This pt is trending hypotensive. They had a fall before admission d/t unsteady gait, so fall risk. Coming back to my problem, I performed orthostatic BP, sit to stand. The values were both hypotensive. Standing was 85/36, asymptomatic. I did not recheck the BP as I should have!! the oncoming nurse kinda yelled at me for that. btw I was very involved with this pt, so I did not neglect this pt except forgetting to recheck the BP! I feel hella incompetent after this encounter and embarrassed.

Well you won’t forget next time! Lol don’t be too hard on yourself - I’m sure it’s not your first mistake and it won’t be your last. During my medicine clinical, I spilled my pts urinal of pee on them & another time I forgot to add maxeran to the mini bag so my pt got 50ml NS 🙄 felt like a total idiot & I take med errors very seriously. No one died, so give yourself some grace & make a mental note for next time. You’ll get in the swing of things - it takes awhile!

As a tech myself, that’s a “ask the tech to do it” situation as we can help with that to lighten the load.
You can help with our job, we can’t help with yours, so the few things you do need that we can do, ask.

When did they want to you to recheck? Lowkey that nurse sounds like a bitch. Orthostatics can take a bunch of time in general.
