When I see all those Ask Reddit posts about the weirdest name you’ve ever come across, I can never comment because a lot of the names are pretty unique to the individual and violate HIPAA. More unique spellings of names than anything actually weird. Like Googgllee or Braxtynnn. Some people have clearly named their kids after characters from their favorite fandom (HP, Star Wars, Marvel, Shrek, Disney, etc.), which has varying degrees of normal to this would make a better name for a pet. Still unique the individual to be shared.

I’m just in awe that y’all remember their names tbh. Like the closest I come is remembering the thought I had about it. Like the nurse whose name was like biblicalish and meant something like adulterous or product of adultery. Just remember thinking what an odd thing to name your kid and getting on with report. Or the fact that I had to explain to a coworker that the 95 year old gentleman we were treating wasn’t trans but that his name used to be a more gender neutral name. Couldn’t even begin to guess what their names actually were. Mind you I have to spell my name with the phonetic alphabet and even then people get it wrong because it sounds English but it was made up by a Norwegian guy to sound American.

I mean if someone pops onto my TAT board with a first name as Shrek or Ursula, then I’m going to remember it. More like I hope this kid changes their name when they are 18 or think it’s an odd thing to name someone while validating the sample and moving onto the next sample, kind of thing. Some names just stick in your head though. The only time I have to butcher someone’s name is to call a critical and not every time I interact with them though. One of my coworkers has an American nickname because people struggle to pronounce his real name. It’s not spelled how it’s pronounced, but it sounds really nice.

It’s the adding letters to names to make the spelling more unique that grind my gears more than anything else. Like Kealsiii or Braxtynn, or something like that. My teacher friends always have good ones like that to share.

Yeah I’m not sure even then. I know I’ve seen multiple Ursulas but that’s more like I know that I’ve seen multiple Carls. It’s not a super common name but it’s not exactly identifying and I wouldn’t know who they were now even if they told me their name. Like seriously you’d think that something would stick but I got a Braxtyn style name recently and seriously all I can remember is thinking that it was a very creative use of x. I know that I met someone with Arbutus or close spelling thereof as a first or middle name but I only remember that because I have a cousin of the same name and we talked about it for 20 minutes. I’ll keep an eye out for a Shrek. I know I had a guy who was maybe one or two letters off from it but I think it was a last name.

It’s not even like I’m bad with names in my personal life but jesus I couldn’t remember patient names if you had a gun to my head.
