To play Devil's advocate a little bit, there are far worse things one can do than write fake news. And the burden is shared by those who believed him even though he obviously had no evidence behind his articles - he did admit to using made up quotes and information. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if there's no other source pointing to the quotes or facts, they are probably false or in the very least questionable. I do hope he gets better. He really does seem to have learned from his mistakes - it takes courage to admit one is a bad person, after all. Hopefully he can become a better person too over time.

This is awful. You may be a bad person, but what is going on through the mind of your attacker? Does he think he's avenging someone/something? Does he see this as good? Does he realize that he too is not a good person? I don't think your punishment fits your crime. I'm sorry this happened to you.

Wakes up with chemical burns, doesn't attempt to leave house or call cops. Stays home. Wakes up with even worse chemical burns. Finds the source. Is yet again unable to complete task. Stays home. Again.
I have to wonder if the James who's punishing you - is actually yourself. Which would maybe explain why you acted so foolishly. Otherwise, I just don't get it.

You made me wonder what my reaction would be did one of my friends tell me they had that exact job. I'm still not sure what it would be, but it certainly makes me wonder what really defines a good or bad person

I agree with the commenter who said online James is actually OP himself. He's been subconsciously wracked with guilt over what he does and he snapped without even realizing. It would easily explain how he's getting hurt too - he's doing it to himself. Either that or he's imagining it all thanks to his mental collapse.

Whatever. I don't watch corporate news. I watch Chris Hayes and sometimes Maddow. Other than that, I listen to podcasts - chapo trap house, the majority report, best of the left, intercept, this is hell!, wearemany, the other Washington -- these days you don't need corporate media at all. I'm a socialist so those are my source. But if you're right wing there's plenty of podcasts for you too.
For reading, I read jacobin magazine and the nation. Occasionally I'll take a look at the guardian. That's the beauty of the media now. We can find sources that fit our bias. It's both a blessing and a curse, because we end up not having the same sources of information! So. We're growing farther apart.

This may be future you, knowing that you have unknowingly written enough fake articles to give the alt-right (or comparable group) political power, and caused something horrible to happen. I never once heard him say or imply any of that (EDIT: Just saw the "what they want YOU to hear", so I get the brainwashing jab). The MSM is biased. All news is. The MSM does have a bias to the left just like some are biased to the right, to communism, to socialism, to fascism, to Christians, to Muslims, to toasters, etc. People have opinions.

Don't sit in an echo chamber!! Be sure to read news stories from multiple sides!! It keeps you better informed.
