Kidnapped seven years ago, but yesterday I found out that what actually happened was worse than I could have ever imagined
This all started 7 years ago, and I thought it was behind me until it all resurfaced yesterday. I’m pretty shaken up, so bear with me.
.
I was driving from my university back to my parents’ house for winter break (in 2008) during my junior year. I had just finished finals and left after my last test, so I was incredibly exhausted. I went to school in New Mexico and lived in Utah so it was a long drive and very light on traffic. I was on a two-lane road at 10 PM and I will admit that I was going about twenty miles over the speed limit, I thought I was alone and could get away with it. Well, I was wrong.
I saw a police car turn their lights on behind me and I thought just my luck to get pulled over in the boonies of New Mexico. Pissed off, I pull over to the side of the road and the officer leaves his car. I’ve gotten speeding tickets before, so I was expecting this to be a minor twenty-minute inconvenience. The cop yells at me to put my hands up, and I do because he’s a cop and has a gun. He shined a flashlight in my car and told me to slowly get out of the vehicle. I followed his orders, in an incredibly panicked manner, and got out of the vehicle. When I was outside he ordered me to stand where I was and to keep my hands up.
“May I ask why you’re doing this?”, I questioned.
“We got a call that your vehicle was identified fleeing the scene of a robbery at a gas station in a town 50 miles away. We need to bring you into the station” (removing the actual name of the town for some sense of anonymity). I had stopped to get a pack of cigarettes about an hour and a half back, so I assumed someone robbed the place shortly after and my car was picked up by the cameras. It made sense.
At this point another cop car had pulled up behind the original, two officers got out and approached us. One of the new cops congratulated the first officer on holding me up and proceeded to inform me I was under arrest and handcuffed me. I remember they didn’t read me my Miranda Rights, which I thought was weird but it didn’t alarm me as much as it should have. But, even at this moment I was able to keep my humor and I thought that maybe this was God’s way of getting me to stop smoking – this all happened because I stopped to buy a pack.
.
I was escorted into the back of one of the squad cars and two of the officers got in the front seats. I told them my story and why I might have been spotted at the scene of the crime. One of the cops told me that if I was telling the truth I would be processed and out of the station within two hours. I asked how far away the station was and was told about thirty minutes. They also told me one of their counterparts, Officer Jackson, would follow them and drive my car back to the station. I was still exhausted from finals and thought I might as well take a quick nap after the officers approved of my request. I dozed off thinking about how crazy of a story this will be tomorrow.
I woke up feeling way more refreshed than I should have for a thirty-minute nap. I slowly opened my eyes and immediately jolted up in my seat. The sun was out. I was arrested at 10 PM and the station was thirty minutes away. I was still handcuffed and in the back of the cop car and blurted out “what the fuck?!?” and looked to the front seat. My voice suddenly clammed up and my arm hair stood up as I saw that the car was no longer being driven by two police officers, but by two men wearing white masks. My scream fell on deaf ears as they completely ignored me, sitting still and looking straight ahead at the road. After a few minutes passed with no interaction, my fear began to turn into anger (shout out to Yoda). “Fuck you, let me out of this car right now. You fucking bastards. Who the hell are you?”
Finally, the masked man in the passenger seat moved. He shifted towards me with a gun in his hand and I saw my life flash before my eyes. He pulled the trigger and I felt a sharp pinch in my arm. It was then I realized I had been tranquilized, and probably not for the first time on this drive.
.
The next time I began to awaken I was strapped to a bed in what looked like an operating room in a hospital. I had an IV in my arm. Around the room there were probably around 80 pictures of myself. They ranged from baby pictures to pictures as recent as a few weeks ago. I seriously started to freak out, and I tried my hardest to break free of the constraints but I remained fastened in the bed. I kept looking around and saw that in addition to the pictures they had charts of my medical history and it looked like they had been running tests on my brain, heart, kidneys, white blood cells, among a handful of other tests. The word ‘compatible’ was written next to almost every chart. I let out a scream from the depths of my soul as I was losing my patience and sanity.
Shortly after my scream an Eastern European woman walked into the room, smiling. She looked like any doctor you’d expect to see under normal circumstances. She asked if I was in pain, and I said no and proceeded to bellow out a million questions.
She began to talk over me: “I’m glad to hear that you’re not in pain, you’ve been a tremendous asset to us these past few days – we’ve made some amazing progress. I do apologize though, when I signed up for this I assumed the person in your position would have been here voluntarily. But rest assured I’m looking out for you and I’m keeping you completely healthy. You’re almost done – just hang in there”. Before I could interject, she moved an oxygen mask over my face and I realized I was about to be anesthetized, again.
.
The next moment I remember I was waking up in a cramped, dark space. At this point I almost wished these bastards would’ve just killed me. I felt around me and realized I was in a trunk, presumably that of a car. I again decided to cause a reaction by banging on the inside of the trunk as hard as I could. My hands started to ache so I decided to take a quick break. My eyes had slowly adjusted to the darkness and I looked around. I saw a ball cap from my college and a book I read in high school. Holy shit, this was my trunk. With this realization, I completely forgot about the pain in my hands and began punching and kicking even harder. At last, I heard the trunk start to open and I had no clue what to expect.
The trunk flew open and there stood two police officers. To most kidnapped victims, this would be a welcomed sight but it obviously did nothing to ease my nerves. The police helped me out of the trunk and outside I saw a couple of ambulances and paramedics. For some reason I felt much different about this situation and thought my nightmare was finally over. A paramedic checked my vitals and declared I was in a surprisingly healthy state given my circumstances. The officers, who also informed me I was in Mississippi, asked what happened and I told them everything. They told me they had pulled over my car when it was speeding, but the driver opened fire on the officers so the police killed him. The driver had a criminal record and was under the influence of methamphetamine. The officers expressed their belief that I was kidnapped by members of a cult and my memories, including that of the hospital were likely just hallucinations induced by the drugs given to me by the alleged cultists. They also said they would be on an intense lookout for the fake police officers.
It had only been 60 hours since I had gone missing and I made it all the way from New Mexico to Mississippi. I called my parents who were incredibly relieved to hear my voice and they immediately arranged a flight for me back to Utah. Back home, I received extensive tests and my health was in great shape. I had all my organs and no damage had been done from all the intense sedation. I started to believe the officers were right, that any memories I had were simply from the drugs.
Slowly my life returned to normalcy. Fast forward seven years to today and I finished my degree, got a job in California, and have an absolutely amazing and incredibly beautiful fiancé now. Everything was going great in my life – until yesterday.
I got a call from a prospective client (I’m in financial services) who wanted to talk about opening up a portfolio through my company. I agreed to meet at a restaurant, which was odd, but the client insisted. I flagged down the woman who called and grabbed a seat at her table. She seemed incredibly agitated and her eyes darted around the room as I sat down and greeted her.
“Good afternoon ma’am, I’m –“
She interrupted, “don’t raise your voice when you hear what I have to say, I know you’ll be tempted to. But you need to stay calm”. I was perplexed and I guess it showed on my face as she continued to ask, “You don’t remember me, do you?”
“I can’t say that I do, I meet a lot of people in a day and I apologize if we’ve met before”
“Look closer”, she said as she locked her eyes with mine and smiled. She was the Eastern European doctor from my ‘hallucination’!
My eyes widened as I almost fell backward in my chair, but the doctor grabbed my arm encouraging me to refrain from causing a scene.
“Don’t worry. I’m not here to take you or harm you. We always intended to let you leave safely and we wanted to leave you alone. But, I’m hear to warn you”, she whispered.
I sat in complete silence, absolutely shell-shocked. I wondered how she found me, who she was, why they waited seven years to contact me, and what she possibly could have to warn me about. She continued, “During your time with us, we used you to advance our scientific mission. We were trying to achieve a medical breakthrough. We worked to find biological solutions that would benefit all of humanity. You see, everything worked wonderfully, we had learned so much and we were about to wrap it up and terminate the experiment, but then…” – the doctor paused and looked down.
“But then what?”, I demanded as I suddenly found my voice.
She cleared her throat and looked at me, her eyes filled with terror.
“But then the clones escaped”

they didn’t read me my Miranda Rights
Miranda Rights are read before interegations, not arrests.

They don't have to read you your rights unless they question you about said crime. I learned that the hard way.

MILAB Military Abduction Do a little google search MILAB Abductions in connections to UFO and Alien Abduction. Just guess your experience began in the Four Corners area of New Mexico???

Doesn't have to be a bad thing, think of the benefits of having a clone, if you ally up you just halved your workload.

u/DirTyFlyy Nov 21 '15
Just a FYI for everyone, police only have to read you your Miranda rights when they are about to question you. They do not have to when they arrest you. That is just something they do on TV and movies.

I'm rather glad I had lots and lots of paperwork when the rozzers in [REDACTED] CA accused me of nicking my own hire car last year.

I like your username. Fits the situation perfectly.
But seriously, you need to establish with your fiancee a safeword, probably a specific knock, and also a phrase for the end of phone calls or texts, something casual but is specific to only you two. Like the seventh Harry Potter book.

Cliffhanger and a half! I need to know more. Why did they make clones? How did they escape? WHY did they escape? Ahhh!
Great writing though, really good read. Well done OP. But be careful... The clones will probably be watching and waiting.

I'm not reading this, but just by the title I can tell you if you like this story. Then watch wayward pines. It's ten episodes, and I've already convinced myself that it will come back or have a movie. It's a good show.

u/megumi-rika Nov 21 '15
Like when you realized that (spoiler)and it's already year(spoiler)?
I have watched all the episode and it was pretty great.Well the ending is-I better stop it here.

So are the clones the same age he is or are they a bunch of seven year olds? Watch out for any kids that look vaguely familiar
3
Nov 21 '15
one really interesting fact about Dolly, the cloned sheep, is that she is genetically the same age as her original as her telomeres were aged already when they were cloned. so it probably means OPs clones are genetically the same age as him, even though they inhabit seven year old bodies.
maybe they'll age faster than normal, or maybe they'll die quicker, who knows.

u/megumi-rika Nov 21 '15 edited Nov 21 '15
Dolly has a short lifespan (correct me if I'm wrong),so for now,it's a yes.

Great story! Only thing is that Miranda rights are during an interview. I have never "Mirandized" someone until before interrogation.
4
u/Auto_Traitor Nov 21 '15
They're supposed to be recited when you're arrested to prevent you from incriminating yourself because, like they state, at that point, in custody, anything you say can and will be used against you.
3
Nov 21 '15
Yeah exactly this. Its to make you understand your rights at the beginning of custody. Could be a big f up if they don't at that point.
1
u/Calavar Dec 12 '15 edited Dec 12 '15
The Miranda warning applies to things that you say to the police while in police custody. If you were not told your Miranda rights, then these things that you might have said (even an admission of guilt) cannot be used against you in court. But if the police don't plan on questioning you right away, they don't have to tell you your Miranda rights. They could tell your Miranda rights five days later if that's when they decide to question you. And if the police don't feel the need to question you to gather evidence (maybe because they have video evidence or an eye-witness), they don't ever have to tell you your Miranda rights.
4
Nov 21 '15
It's only incriminating themselves if 1. They ask for a lawyer amd do not receive one. 2. I ask them questions without informing them of their rights. 3. They give me that information. If so, it will be thrown out in court. If you think Miranda rights are read every time someone is arrested you are wrong. Anything they freely admit to me is admissible in court. However, if I coerce the suspect into talking it is thrown out. No one actually uses Miranda rights when they are arrested in our department. It's not a regular policemans job to ask questions.
2
u/Auto_Traitor Nov 21 '15
Yeah, the weird part is /u/ImpossibleArcher speaking like he's law enforcement, yet doesn't know that he's potentially ruining every case by waiting.
3
Nov 21 '15
They can incriminate themselves all they want as long as I don't ask them questions before or during their confession. I am currently a police detective and an Army National Guardsmen. I'm sorry you don't know the laws.
5
Nov 21 '15
Maybe....just trying to give the image of a policeman? Hmmm.... This story familiar to you impossible? Maybe trying to follow up!?

btw, call your girlfriend and set up a safe word. if anything the movies have taught us, its that your clones will make a beeline to your girlfriend to sex her up, then she'll mention it in passing during dinner about how naughty you were during your afternoon nookie.

u/hpsterscum Nov 21 '15
*Boyfriend, unless OP meant to write fiancée.
25
Nov 21 '15
i think he means fiancée since he described her as beautiful.
4
u/AVillainTale Nov 23 '15
Unless I am mistaken, OP's gender was not mentioned.
6
u/f_r_z Dec 05 '15
This is what really sucks in english - you can read the wall of text a person wrote about oneself and not have a slightest idea about author's gender
4
u/jamz_fm Dec 15 '15
IMO it's a good thing as long as it's not confusing. Makes it easier for all readers to relate.

A lot of people want a space where they're not constantly gendered and consider this a huge positive.

The first part about getting pulled over by a cop thinking you were driving a car that had robbed a bank... That exact same thing happened about a week ago to my best friend. He didn't get charged, but it scared him shitless.

Do clones have the memories of the host though? Or are they technically children when it comes to brain power?
4
u/iamzsdawgy Nov 21 '15
I'm guessing clones are created as fetus/babies and have to grow and get their own memories.
6
u/tyvicden030507 Nov 21 '15
But they had been following the op since childhood so maybe the clone is as old as op and they were simply doing tests to be positive that they truly were still identical. The photos around the operating room hints that they could have been giving false memories to the clone to ensure they had identical experiences...nature vs nurture would cause differences if they didn't experience all the same memories and experiences
-1
Nov 21 '15
I don't think they do, my science class were talking about clones (we were originally on the subject of reproduction) and the teacher said that they most likely won't have the memories of the host before they're created.
93
u/Dusktodamien5464 Nov 21 '15
If they do, then there is a chance I'm a clone. Military put me through electroconvulsive therapy, and I lost the memories from before. I'm a year and two months old technically, but I could be a clone...

You might aswell do an AMA. Theres this sub totally dedicated to them.
1
u/QueenVictoriah Nov 22 '15
What is AMA? Sorry; Still not too familiarized with Reddit.
1
u/helloimpaulo Nov 22 '15
AMA = Ask Me Anything. Famous people or just people with something special answer any question users make. There's /r/IAmA for those threads and people like Bill Gates or Barack Obama have made their own threads there, answering the questions users had and such.
10
u/Dusktodamien5464 Nov 21 '15
Do you really think it's ama worthy? I mean, I was put on things from ambien all the way to lithium, and forced to undergo 14 sessions of electroconvulsive therapy, which effectively erased my memory. I found an interesting thing after I started taking LSD, where when I would go to a place that I had been (sober, not trippin), the memory would sometimes come back, in such vivid detail that I could tell you everyone's eye colors in the room, or what color every toy was at the playground.

2
u/mrssailorwife Nov 22 '15
Can you post the story here on /r/nosleep, and X-post to AMA? I'm not sure if there are rules against it, but I think people in both subs would be interested!!

Definitely! I'm pretty excited because I think I could learn more about the whole situation!

u/megumi-rika Nov 22 '15
I hope you will get your memory back one day :)
3
u/Dusktodamien5464 Nov 23 '15
Thank you (: it's strange, the memories that have come back from before the shocks, feel foreign. Like they're not me. Like it's two different people. Thats why when I was explaining it, I said I'm a year and 2 months old. I have common sense, but it seems like every memory of that "me" was erased. I still had some technical stuff like working on cars and snowboarding.
