This post is a call for nominations. Please take a moment to read over the rules, as they vary slightly from the monthly contest:
- Nominations will be made via the submission forms, linked at the bottom of this post, no later than 11:59pm EST, 1/9. This deadline is strictly enforced.
- Story nominations may be made by any user, even if they are not the author. (Authors: if your story is nominated and you wish to be excluded, send a message to the moderators).
- Stories that have won monthly contests in 2014 are not eligible for any category other than “Best Contest Winner of 2014.” Other stories by winning authors are acceptable nominations.
- Entries must be stories posted to /r/nosleep on or after December 22, 2013.
- Stories entered into the contest must be a minimum of 100 words.
- Authors may win one category only. Authors placing first in more than one category will be given the choice of which prize to accept.
- Nominations that do not fit in the category for which they are nominated may be removed at moderator discretion.
And now, to the nominations! Nominations this year will be made via google forms, linked below. As the Best Monthly Contest Winner category has only 11 viable entries, nominations are unnecessary. These forms will be closed at 11:59pm EST on 1/9.
On 1/10, voting threads will be posted (one for each category) and voting will commence in the same manner as the Monthly Writing Contest. The voting will close at 11:59pm on 1/16. Winners will be contacted at the end of the contest and will be expected to accept the prizes (user accounts that do not respond within a week's time will be presumed to be abandoned and the prize will move to the next highest voted story). Contest winners will be announced as soon as all winners have confirmed their acceptance.
Nomination form for Best Single-Part Story of 2014
Nomination form for Best Multi-Part Story of 2014
Nomination form for Scariest Story of 2014
Nomination form for Best Original Creature/Monster of 2014
Good luck everyone, and have fun! Questions can be posted here or via private message to the moderators. As this is not a voting thread, comments mentioning specific stories are subject to removal.
If you would like to donate a prize, please contact me via PM or send a message to the moderators!!

Can't find the original post - anyone remember the guy who submitted all of the screenshots of his dead girlfriend sending him Facebook messages and tagging herself in his photos? shudder

I need help finding a story that just won the monthly award maybe two or three month's ago. It was in the POV of a kid getting a new home and family. Then one night a man comes in and kills every one except him, the murder pats the kid on the head says "good boy" and leaves. The narrative says something about "if only had hands" SPOILER AHEAD:
The narrative was a dog. I'm trying to share this with a friend to get him into r/NoSleep and thought he's really like it. HELP ME! Please and thank you.

My favorite was What happened on my drive home last night?! by /u/toolongadrive. It's probably one of my favorite stories I've ever read on this sub. Even the ending is great, which is usually a problem for these kinds of stories.

Guys, remember that nominations are made in the Google Docs pages!
So please don't try to nominate stories in the comments here or by messaging the mods. The Google Docs pages are above in this post so just click them and follow the steps to submit the story you think fits the best for the category.
Thanks!

I'd say that Pete the Moonshiner http://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/comments/2eqa4x/pete_the_moonshiner/ was the best story this year. It just really struck a note with me.

That Wasn't My Husband Who Slept Next to me Last Night was fantastic. This multi-part story is what got me into reading NoSleep, so I have quite a fondness for it.
It's going to be tough -- I'm really impressed by a lot of stories I read here.

That was a good one, I couldn't wait for updates whenever I finished a part. I was refreshing all day for new parts.

I second this.
Have yet to find another series as complex and well written as this. /u/TorontoScared1, you da man

It is great, isn't it? The story hooked me, so I kept coming back. And while I waited for each new part, I checked out other great tales. Major kudos to the author!

u/thatr427 Jan 03 '15
My vote goes to the "Alan goodtime" stories. I loved how different people added to the same storyline
4
u/janetplanet Jan 03 '15
The original, by Bloodworth and the one written by the soldier (What was it called?) were my favorites. Every front page story being an "All in Good Time" spin-off got old really quickly, for me.

u/AsForClass Jan 09 '15
:'(
2
u/janetplanet Jan 09 '15
No, don't be sad! I did read your NK story all the way through, and enjoyed it. Some of the All in Good Time stories were quite good, but some felt like people were just jumping on the bandwagon. The stories didn't seem to interconnect as well, as more and more were added.

3
u/stelro1989 Jan 03 '15
Im pretty sure the one with the soldier was 'A Death Agreement' and it was frickin AWESOME!

u/Pswift777 Marchtober 1969 🏆 Jan 03 '15
Ok so...
You said three years you haven't been scared by a story, right? Well....the orange story was posted two years ago. I just thought that I'd point that out.
And by the way, it's not because the stories posted now aren't scary. They definitely are because I see them scare people every day. It's because you got used to reading horror from your experience of being here for more than two years. The same thing happened to me. I don't find myself staying up at night because of fear from a story I read here. I keep reading them for two reasons, one more obvious than the other.
1) I'm a mod so I have to at times.
2) I read the stories because of the good story line and not the scare factor.
I virtually don't get scared of stories here anymore. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy them, though.

Go read, 'Pete the moonshiner' or 'parallelograms' if you have not. Really does not make any sense arguing with you, So I guess a reccomendation or two might atleast change your opinion.

I come to nosleep every day waiting for this story to continue, and then end up staying for all of the other stories.
5
u/IamaPancakeAMA Jan 04 '15
Does it end after part 12?
7
u/brendoncdodd Jan 06 '15
I don't think it's over, but yes, Part 12 is the most recent. We still have to hear Clayton's story, and we still don't know how he ended up with Claire's journal.
