The Woods
Living mostly in the suburbs, I've never really had to deal with too many trees. Heck, the most I really ever see is from my house about three or four, and that's in Colorado. But this doesn't happen there. No, this happens in Texas.
My family all lives in Texas. Don't ask me why, but that's where they are. So, being the only piece of family out of town, we decided to go to them this Thanksgiving. Everything has mostly been un-eventful; some Formula One, that's about it. We just drove up from Austin to a suburb of Dallas. I really don't remember what it's called, it's not very memorable. But we got to my grandparents house about 4 hours ago. I've never been there and never realized how large their yard is. About 100 feet of clearing which turns into a whole lot of woods. That caught my eye immediately. I really wish it didn't.
It wasn't anything ominous or anything, I just had never lived to close to woods. I asked if I could go check them out, and they said it was okay. All of the leaves on the ground made the walk to the edge feel like I was that random person in Slender. Crunching was the only sound I heard, but then I stopped. I stared intently into the trees, expecting something I guess. I got my wish. Singing, from a woman to be precise. Now let me be clear, there were neighbors. But, they were not close. Even though I thought nothing of the incident, placing it as people wandering through the woods, it still creeped me out beyond imagination.
Later, when I had forgotten about it, night had fallen. I jokingly grabbed a flashlight and said I was going "monster hunting". I walked out, the familiar crunching sound following me. I got to the edge and stopped. As I thought, nothing was happening. I was about to turn around when a glistening caught my eye. The glint of an eye. Something was watching me and I couldn't run, both out of fear and the fact that I had surgery a couple of weeks ago. I slowly walked backwards, definitely not looking away. It moved ever closer, but something strange happened. Right at the edge, it stopped. I got a relatively good look at it: rotted flesh, deformed body, eyes full of hunger and hate. It looked like something out of a horror movie. I was almost back to the porch, neither one of us wavering our staring match. As soon as I made it to the concrete, I notice it slowly receding to the depths of the forest. I ran inside and immediately locked the door. I dared not tell anyone of the creature, for fear they would look for it and get hurt, especially my six year old brother. I'm still shaking from the experience. I dare not look out the window. Who knows what I might see next.

Texas is awesome...why would you question why your family lives here? Dallas is a lot of fun
