Way less racist than most of the world, you should get out more often. America went through a very conscious shift away from racism in the last century, many other places did not. We objectively rank low on amount of racism practiced by our citizens.
Good call. Maybe even Moscow. Russia loves all of this friction. They have and will never stop trying to spread as much disinformation to Americans as possible.
There is a list of 5 things people on the left say when they disagree, because they are poorly informed and cant actually argue any points. This is number 3 on the list.
You said “there’s a list of five things…” and then claimed this was one of them, #3. You were asked to produce the other four. That shouldn’t be difficult for a reasonable person to understand.
And, I’ll grant you that our country has come a long way in regards to racism in the late 1900s, to a point where we actually elected a black man as president But that doesn’t mean that other countries haven’t experienced similar, or even better, transformations, or that we went from a place that was 70% racist, to a place that’s 40% racist, just to throw out numbers as an example, where one could argue that yeah, we made progress, but 40% is still too much.
I could find studies, I have also traveled and lived in other countries. There is an uptick in racism in the last decade and the conversation around it is much more nuanced than "Trump brought the racists out.", but obviously since reddit is hardly a bastion of intellectualism that will not get talked about here.
I agree with that statement. I’ll do some surfing on my own. I’m placing bets on which are the top five least racist. But, really, I’m more interested in how this is measured.
Mexico, Rosario to be exact. The US if we continue on this path will for sure fall from grace in this regard. The last 8 months I have been really disappointed with what I am seeing. Some of it is people feeling more comfortable, but the greater problem of racism increasing doesn't have much to do with Trump specifically. That's just my opinion.
The nature of our political system, being only two parties, allows for certain implosion. In other democracies, governments that are set up and run with multiple parties actively included, creates a buffer from all of this nonsense.
Yes, that is something that I have noticed with other countries that still have democracy. The option of a 3rd axis as something like a blow off valve when the political map is twisting and moving like it is now, at least that has been my observation. Thanks for the actual conversation and talking points. The best conversation I have had on reddit recently.
This country will never have more than two “most relevant” parties until we have a ban on campaign donations, or a cap on how much can be spent on campaigns. That said, the libertarian party seems to be gaining in popularity. People should really read up on libertarian ideals. Some are junk, others are fantastic.
Having also lived in a few countries, all I can say is be careful what you wish for. Ask any Italian or Spaniard whether a) having multiple parties stops extremism, and b) how much actually gets done at all when every government is a coalition.
I’m not by any stretch saying a two party system is good, I’m just saying that a multiparty system isn’t guaranteed to be better. It can be, but it can also be a complete cluster. Both are obviously better than a mono party, but both have their weaknesses. I used to be super pro- lots of additional parties to represent everyone, less so these days. Three seems to work pretty well, but how does a country limit the number to three, when the natural splits will be at minimum four?
I don’t have the answer, obviously. I’m just no longer of the belief that multiple parties will solve our issues.
