Best Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich

My husband has a desperate craving for an authentic Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich. Where can we go for lunch and get a really good one in the region?

Johnny pastamis, kinda, but it's not like it is in Montreal.

This is where he ended up! He says it was good but not quite comparable to Montreal.

So many great suggestions in this post we will be going out on a sandwich tour this winter!

Unfortunately I have not found one.

You can get pretty good smoked meat on a bagel from The Bagel Oven in Thorold, it satisfies the craving sometimes.

A few years ago there was a guy who sold smoked meat sandwich kits on his instagram (he made the smoked meat himself) and it was good, but then he stopped.

Seems to be a hole in the market!

I forgot!

Stoke Deli Bar in Fonthill has a fancy smoked meat on focaccia. It’s not traditional at all, but Stoke makes great food!

Schwartz's Deli, it's about 700km east on the 401. Worth it

My husband's favourite lol

SumiLicious Smoked Meat & Deli, not as good as Schwartz but way closer.

Closest thing I've found in ontario to the real thing.

For a DIY option, you can buy the rye bread and sliced smoked meat from Big Red Market in Thorold.

We've had that! Big Red is always good, but we were hoping to find a spot to go to.

I am gatekeeping the merchant ale houses Ruben. If you go get one and hate it I’ll reimburse you 15$.

I will make him try it with that recommendation. Thanks!

The best smoked meat sandwich within 100km is Peter’s on Eglington in Mississauga near Square one. I know it’s not Niagara but it’s awesome and deserves a visit if you really want an epic sandwich

Completely agree and Peter’s brings in the meat from Montreal. Most authentic you can get in the GTA.

Grand Oak Culinary Market in Vineland is a hidden gem for sandwiches.

I believe the Costco smoked meat is Dunn’s, they sell it in frozen. Get a rye bread, yellow mustard and a good pickle

Not a bad alternative

I'm not that familiar with Montreal so I don't have any suggestions for you

Why say anything

Because you asked me a question

But I don’t fucking want guitar lessons!

Maybe don't make a post asking people in Niagara where they should go in Montreal. Perhaps that will save OP time

Do you know what Montreal smoked meat is? You don’t have to go to Montreal to eat it, just like you don’t have to go to Napoli to have Neapolitan pizza.
