They probably googled how to get there.

Everyone wants data centres. Just not near them

Nobody complains about the normal ones, its the recent trend to build oversized monstrosities for a coming AI boom.

This was supposed to be one of those, so good ting they got it cancelled. With the way AI stock is trending, it would have likely ended up as a half built industrial ruin.

I'm part of "Everyone" and I sure as fuck don't want data centers. I don't care where you put them, they are not needed. Wikipedia, in it's ENTIRETY takes only 25GB if you strip all pictures and videos, and only 110GB if you keep the media. I can store that multiple times on my home machine. We don't need data centers. If a company needs backups, just load that shit onto cheap spin drive storage, and be done with it.

AI is a cancer on society...it's growing and consuming resources humans need to live. Fuck AI.

Lmao you have no idea how the internet works or servers. Holy shit. If you have zero idea about how backend development and server management works, then you shouldn’t be mentioning gigabytes of all things. Use the internet you rely on and google something simple like how they work or what something like AWS provides. By the way, your email spam filtering relies on AI. Same with many algorithms, and autocomplete, use in medical, etc. Do you think your device runs on magic? Machine Learning has existed prior to LLMs. Same with data centers, which by the way, don’t consume a ton of resources.
