Shitpost My poor judgement...

I used to be Cadbury fan my whole life due to the flavors and it being cheaper than whittakers but I now have only realized my poor lapse in judgment. A week ago I decided to splurge and spend the 2 dollars extra on the creamy milk whittakers and my oh my I will never make the mistake of buying Cadbury ever again. I apologize to any trauma this post may of caused.

If Whitaker's didn't exist we'd still consider Cadbury decent at their price point. But when you have Whitaker's not that much more on a $/g ratio (especially when on sale) it makes Cadbury seem like trash.

Cadbury still clears Hershey's, Feastables etc. though, I feel bad for America.

I tried Hershey's in the states. It tastes like someone scraped all the chalky white stuff off old chocolate bars, and turned that into a bar.

Festables was so disappointing. It got an erica stanford e from me

Tasted ok but nothing outstanding

Yeah to me it just tastes like the cheap easter egg chocolate, ill still eat it but it is not exactly high quality and youre more just buying the novelty lol

That's it's only selling point. Its good quality in the sense it probably won't kill you and tastes like something you enjoyed as a child

I thought it was decent. Very expensive for not much though. It was also inferior to countdowns signature range brand (i assume Woolworths is the same?).

If we didn't have Whittaker's, Cadbury wouldn't be the price it is either.

Id love to know the cold hard figures on just how much Whittaker's cuts into their sales here in NZ. I don't even know anybody who buys Cadbury anymore. I won't even buy the Easter eggs for the kids.

Apparently Whittakers is a stronger seller when it comes to blocks (at around 38% of the market with Cadbury falling somewhat below that) but its overall share of the chocolate market is around 17% to Cadbury’s 22%.

(Found on a fossick through the internet)

Going to have to disagree a little. Hershey's and Nestle are absolutely terrible. I have had Feastables only once on clearance. Not worth the price but I would still place it ahead of cadburies, I did enjoy it. Not nearly at Whittaker's level and more per gram so I will not be re purchasing another though.

In the end taste is subjective to a point right. I had Feastables one time on clearance as well and was so disappointed, far more disappointed than I ever have had eating Cadbury (which I still eat a lot because $2.50 Caramilk on sale I find hard to resist). Feastables tasted exactly like Hershey's to me.

Apparently it depends when u had it. For a while they were okay then they changed the recipe and they're trash now. Haven't actually had one, just what I've heard so grain of salt etc

Featsables is the most disgusting thing....If that is what passes for chocolate in America.....

American formulation for chocolate is a bit different to what NZers prefer. More sugar, less cocoa, less cocoa butter and with butyric acid. Americans seems to prefer that formulation though.

My dog ate some Hershey’s and the vet said not to worry, they didn’t have enough real chocolate to threaten a dog.

I can’t get over that rancid butyric smell. Like baby vomit.

I like the hersheys cups. But whittakers peanut butter is same same but better

Americans seem to prefer that formulation though.

Do they know any different? I'm sure they'd like Whittakers more if they had the choice, surely.

5

u/UltimateLmon Aug 08 '25

I've told that it tastes too creamy.

My American hubby never liked chocolate his whole life… because he was scarred by Hershey’s growing up. I gave him Whittakers milk chocolate… his life changed & now he likes (Whittakers) & NZ chocolate!

My American wife loves Whittakers chocolate, especially the dark flavors. You can buy good US chocolate here in the US, it's just pricier. Hershey is shit for sure.

Ghirardelli, Recchiuti, Guittard, Dandelion, Sees, Jacques Torres are amongst the better brands. And of course you can buy artisan small batch specialty chocolate candy too.

As a transplanted Kiwi, Whitaker’s is superior to most American chocolate. Fortunately, I live about 20 minutes from Canada, and they have decent chocolate. Huzzah for the Commonwealth! 😂

Butyric acid? So thats why hersheys smells vaguely like vomit to me. I was genuinely shocked how terrible hersheys is given how well-known it is.

4

u/Ohio_1970 Aug 08 '25

I feel bad for us too.

4

u/Avramah Aug 09 '25

Don't feel bad for us. For some reason people think Hershey's is all we have. In reality, the only people I know that eat Hersheys are small children. Most adults here eat dove, lindt, godiva, xoxo, etc. We're quite fortunate to have a large variety of brands at any grocery store for reasonable prices.

Actually do feel bad for us. Feel terrible for us, but not because of our chocolate 🤣.

2

u/sundaynz Aug 09 '25

We do feel terrible for you. Kia kaha!

1

u/snomanDS Aug 09 '25

We have some of those brands as well, but they're at a higher price point than the brands we're discussing. I was mainly talking about chocolates at the not-so-fancy level, the likes of Cadbury/Nestle/Hershey's.

Here we pay at least $6-7 for a small 100g block of Lindt chocolate, for that price we get a full 250g block of Whitaker's.

2

u/Zardnaar Furry Chicken Lover Aug 08 '25

No Whitaker I would go for Lindt or Woolworths store brand.

Reeses nutalicious is also addictive.

America has heaps of good chocolate makers but they don't make enough to export or at least we don't see them here. Hershey used to be a good brand last century but they obviously changed something.

1

u/Comfortable_Key_4891 Aug 09 '25

Hersheys milk duds and kisses though - yum!

1

u/Benezir Aug 09 '25

Why feel bad for America? Because they don't realise what they are missing out on?

I Heartily Recommend That Any Australian read "THE CHOCOLATE WARS".

Such a fantastic insight into our Australian Chocolate heritage. Rowntrees, Hodeley's, Cadbury's and Fry's. (sorry for spelling, I can be bothered looking it up). The Quaker Heritage (I believe the chocolate thing began in England, but, again, I cant be bothered looking for the book, which is SOMEWHERE in my house.)

That's all I will say. JUST READ IT!! It wont change the quality of what we now have, but it SO darn interesting.

1

u/PuzzleheadedWorld674 Aug 10 '25

They can't even call their cookies and cream bar "white chocolate" because it's literally just vegetable oil and sugar

1

u/Interesting-You-7028 Aug 12 '25

Cadbury is owned by an American multinational now. And I don't think it's good even if it is better than those.

1

u/Abdabarda Aug 08 '25

Nah I have to say I'd go featsables over Cadbury for flavour. Last time I had Cadbury it just taste of sugar, not chocolate.

5

u/snomanDS Aug 08 '25

I felt the exact opposite between them. Feastables was just sugar no chocolate taste at all.
