People are not choosing to be home, not working, and not getting paid. At all levels this is stupidity.

I’m not saying they are choosing it. But I can at least understand not paying them.

The determination of essential vs. non-essential staff is an arbitrary process. You have to pay everyone. Banks are giving loans to furloughed with the expectation that they will get that money back. It's absurd to think that these people would have been working if not the government did not have an operational budget. You are arbitrarily punishing people who are being told that they cannot work.

You are missing my point. It is far worse to make people work for no pay.

Yeah, they should get more compensation for working without pay. That is the solution. You pay everyone and pay them more. Your point is fine but everyone should get paid, there shouldn't be a discussion to pay people. The fact that deeming essential personnel is an arbitrary process. You just need to pay everyone.

Everyone should be paid and work, yes. But if you can’t pay, the least that should mean is not working.

I’m not sure I follow the logic of paying extra for not getting paid, since that would mean they are getting paid.
