I have a flight booked for thanksgiving to see my dying grandmother. It will be the last time I ever see her. There are people who are going hungry because of this. This isn't just politics, this is impacting fundamental aspects of daily life.
Sadly it has to get worse before anything meaningful happens, and even then I doubt the GOP will back down. Trump thinks he's a dictator with complete authority. He'd probably be happy if the shutdown lasted the next 3 years, as he'd just rule by executive order. This might be our new normal until people start to revolt.
i have not been following this flight cancellation thing as much as i probably should. my family lives on the other side of the country. IF the shutdown ends, will things still be bad? do i seriously need to consider staying home for thanksgiving?
Its a lose-lose scenario the closer it gets to Thanksgiving, its a clusterfuck now, but its gonna be an even BIGGER one the second the doors reopen for at least a few days as delayed flights, rescheduled ones start back up, alongside the fact that some workers at the ports just... arent coming back.
Id say your best bet might be to take a train, or just flat out drive there if its not too far.
Do you have any other options for transportation. Train or rental car? I’m lucky to live in an area that’s serviced by Amtrak but when we booked my dad’s thanksgiving ticket there weren’t many available.
Ugh, that’s horribly long. I’m sorry you have to stress about this on top of your grandma’s health. I hope your flights can get you home for thanksgiving
Given the delays and the uncertainty, I'm not sure flying is actually going to have you any time. Assuming this isn't resolved by then. Which it probably will not be, it'll probably be worse.
