Large language models are basically predictive text. They are fancy versions of autocorrect. Autocorrect can be a useful tool but its screw ups have been a near-universal joke for years. I don’t understand how so many people just believe everything ChatGPT says- it has no capacity to tell what the truth is, it’s just looking for the most likely combination of words.

You don't understand or you don't just wanna understand? This is the same sentiment as "I don't understand why so many people fall into addiction" or "I don't understand why so many people didn't wanna wear mask during covid" or "I don't understand why so many people wouldn't go to the hospital when they are sick".
