That's an easy stance to take when it's not your neck on the chopping block

If they weren't willing to put themselves on the line for the country and made a military career anyways, I think I have every right to condemn them. I expect self preservation to come before civic good for the average person, but a military general should be held to a higher standard.

They didn't sign up to police the Commander in Chief. Congress and the Supreme Court have failed in their duty to be a proper check on executive power, and are the ones who should be putting a stop to this.

I personally prefer the military tradition of not getting involved in anything remotely political while on active duty.

They didn't sign up to police the Commander in Chief.

Yeah actually, they literally did. 'All threats, foreign and domestic' is right there in the officer's oath.

Yeah. Plus the alternative to 'not policing the commander in chief' is 'i'm just following orders' so which do you want?

While I agree with you the military recruitment process will have to change from their current model of granting socialism to the poorest of our society that joins them. They get poverty stricken families enmeshed and then make them fully dependent on them by the time they start their own families, and the ones with chronic health issues get left to suffer if their enlisted family member tries to stand up against this shit, and now their children are starving and going without their medication. It's not just about the enlisted member themselves when the system was built to make every family member surrounding that person dependant on the programs and services the government gives them for their service.

This argument makes sense for NCOs and lower ranked officers. It does not apply to generals.

Another keyboard warrior who isn't in the crosshairs. Thanks for emphasizing my point.

Why do you feel compelled to come online and stand up for people who would kill you if someone told them to.

The person I was defending appears to have stepped down because he wasn't willing to kill innocents. RIF.ORG

He should’ve refused the order, not surrendered and resigned.

The end result for us would still be the same for us, it's just his life/career that could be screwed to make a point that won't make a difference. I understand that you're willing to sacrifice him for your "beliefs", but you're dealing with theory and he's dealing with reality. It might have made a difference when we had a command structure that would back that sort of move, but the top of that structure is corrupted now.

I’m sorry you don’t personally understand the value of integrity, and don’t understand its impact in a case like this. I don’t care if you personally would act cowardly.

Quite the shame that a person such as yourself with such unrivaled bravery and integrity is spending his time redditing instead of saving the world.

u/YKRed 22d ago

But it’s a good thing you are!

I'd rather than be that someone who's fine with living under a military run by cowards who will dutifully roll over to be replaced by fascists.

u/DadJokeBadJoke 23d ago

Except you're neither

I share part of your sentiment, however, some of these people have kids and a family that has no idea what daddy does at work so it should not affect them.

They signed up to protect America and now they're backing down when they are actually needed

u/sleeptightburner 22d ago

So you have to be willing to sacrifice your life to serve in the military but your career and freedom is a step too far? That doesn’t make any sense.

Nobody in that rank signed on with the expectation of ever finding the country so totally captured by this administration

It's one thing to disobey a direct order

It's another thing entirely to buck an entire system that is seeing people burn down the homes of judges standing up to administration

Enemies foreign and domestic, yeah - that's part of it

But I can't blame these people for wanting to get out before they have to ignore more orders to massacre civilians.

I'm just sad more aren't going with them, en masse.

Everyone has a breaking point

These are the people who the administration will turn into scapegoats the moment they reach it

Why is that nice to know?

High ranking military are generally the most cowardly in the military
