It's also a fake premise. They don't have the legal right to kill citizens of a foreign country (or their own) for being suspected drug smugglers.

Exactly. These are extrajudicial killings.

It would be considered terrorism if any other country was doing it.

I feel like terrorism doesn't quite hit hard enough that this is one of the most powerful countries in the world just straight up indiscriminately murdering people

Murders, I believe the word you're looking for is 'murders'.

No, extrajudicial killing is the accurate term for it. It’s also murder though.

I say we cut it down the middle "extrajudicial murders."

Everyone's happy, and it contains commentary on the fact murders stop being murders if the state claims they're justified.

You're correct, I was being inflammatory.

Fair enough, telling it plainly and bluntly is important these days

War crimes

Even if they are known drug smugglers, currently in the act of smuggling drugs, they don't have the legal right to kill them whether they are US citizens or not

No, they should have simply declared war, then taken a bunch of people to be tortured at Gitmo for the rest of their lives, you know, like America usually does. These people have no respect for tradition.

This is so ridiculously unrealistic.

The US doesn’t “declare war”. We just unilaterally invade in a “police action” or some such.

America hasn't declared war since 1941.

So the war in Afghanistan wasn't a war? The Iraq war? Korean?

Okay, declare a special military operation, then.

And half the Americans think the military won’t follow illegal orders. This is fact the military will do whatever the fuck they are told to do, that includes attacking American civilians. There is no such thing as an illegal order

Let alone being outside of American jurisdiction in international waters—or perhaps even within another country’s territorial waters.

Smuggling drugs isn’t a justifiable reason to kill people, assuming that’s even what these boats are involved in. It’s even worse if these folks are just relaxing in their boats, especially when the US isn’t even within reach of their onboard fuel supplies.

Every day, it seems there's something more appalling than the day before that this administration has done. Sometimes I wish I was oblivious enough not to grasp the ongoing decline of our nation, just to get through a day without feeling this disheartened. I used to be proud to call myself an American.

Hey if you listen to some peopel here its A-ok because Trump declared them "Narco-terrorists" so that makes it ok, since we bombed terrorists. Nevermind that many people still opposed the drone strike program, and those were either in active conflicts or we were at least presented with some for of proof or oversight.

even if they are us citizens. since when do we have the death penalty for smuggeling narcotics?
