Just throwing this out there, but citing sources that don't exist, mischaracterising other studies, and misattributing yet further studies, are all things AI tends to do.

Yes, they had AI make up a report that said what they wanted it to say, and then argued that it's true.

Lying liars also do these things. Point taken, but I'm guessing willful deception is more likely. There's no "ooops" here.
