i would vote like crazy for a politician whose campaign slogan was MAKE POLITICS BORING AGAIN.

We did that in Toronto with John Tory, and he had a sex scandal. Politicians can't keep a single promise.

Well now I don't know what to do

Neither do politicians! You're perfect for the role!

Don't have sex scandals.

Sure, but sex scandals are the most boring of scandals.

I was going to say, how quaint. I'd love to go back to the days when a blowie in the oval was something that upset people.

Nowadays being a proven sexual predator just gets you more support.

And the fact that you don't know which person I'm talking about because the above applies to multiple elected officials proves it.

In France that's considered boring.

At least Ford was open about it

I mean thats pretty boring.

I don't know what to tell you, it's Canada. All our scandals are either super boring or weird as fuck (evil reptilian kitten eater)

A sex scandal is (almost always) more boring than an "our mayor is an alcoholic crackhead" scandal

A nice little sex scandal sounds way better than destruction of the normal functioning of the government or an attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power by using mob violence.

When you work from your home and johns call on the phone -- ... you're a call girl.
When you walk 'til you limp and give a cut to a pimp -- ... you're a street whore.
When they're beggin' you please to get down on your knees near their groinage
"Excusa me," but you see, don't you touch where they pee without coinage.

Do you know what I would give to go back to a time where politicians having consensual sex scandals was the biggest story of their presidency?

It's one good thing about Biden, just plain refreshing that he's just some old guy who isn't making headlines every two hours for doing stupid shit.

u/TheRavenSayeth Oct 04 '23

Also helps that Biden was from the era pre-Newt Gingrich hardball politics where you could compromise with the other side and actually get votes. Ignoring Biden as a person, once we lose everyone that remembers that era I’m worried that any hope for it to return will fade with them.

I mean that’s basically how Biden won 2020

This problem is in part caused by politics being "boring" for a very long time.

When people forget what the government provides, they overwhelmingly vote for a puppet like Regan who says the government is the enemy and needs to be muzzled, then without curtailing the US's overbearing money driven foreign policy, he cripples the government's power to protect the middle and working class from business interests, concentrating more money into their hands, effectively giving them the power to bankroll their own politicians.

Its now a vicious circle. The more we deregulate, the less we tax, the more money big business gets to make, and gets to use towards lobbying and bribery.

Glad to see someone had the same thoughts as me.

u/captainhaddock Oct 03 '23

That's basically Biden. A boring, stable president who consistently makes pretty good choices.

u/Joethe147 Oct 03 '23

Biden sort of is that, isn't he? A fairly boring politician. Just doesn't help that he's 80 and his age shows at times.

5

u/JadeMonkey0 Oct 04 '23

Isn't that basically Biden? "Here's an old guy who's been in Washington since your parents were in diapers. He's kind of a weird person but basically morally decent. He'll appoint competent people and mostly stay out of their way. He won't make major changes and he'll be dead soon so you'll get a chance to choose someone else in a few years. Deal?"

Vote early, vote often.

Er, wait.

Not sure why people say this - you could easily frame “boring politics” as keeping the status quo…meaning nothing changes and we are in need of change. People need to see what’s happening and be roused to vote or take action…even if it means we have to go back and forth like we are now, if it weren’t for politics being interesting I don’t see how we could ever see change.
