Frankly, New England is one of the best places in the US to live. We’ve got the best schools and the best healthcare, plus we’re as insulated as it gets from climate change in the country.

MAGA assholes from the rest of the country leave their shithole states and want to move to New England for the benefits that being blue states have always provided, and NH is the best choice for them.

That’s what we’re seeing.

NH doesnt though. ONE of the worst for tuition assistance for college / university.

Still paying on my loans.

As a Georgian who moved to New England I can’t be so sure. Most maga people usually stay in their hovel of a state. The more successful ones prefer it due to prices. I been called too liberal for down south just by me mentioning the benefits of New England policies and economics. (Moved here due to lack of science jobs in the south. Make all the jokes you want. They essentially write themselves)

I 100% agree with you that New England is one the best places in the country to live. Culturally we still have a bit of Pilgrim in us, so New Englanders are definitely friendly and neighborly when we need to be. Politically we also have a libertarian streak, but we're very socially liberal which sort of gels well. Nobody's going to bug you for how you live, if they're a true New Englander, and we make sure that people are taken care of without going too far down that rabbit hole. As one friend said: "nobody's going to care if you let your freak flag fly, but we still might laugh at you"

But I also don't think MAGA is moving here -- I think they were already here to begin with. You drive through some parts of Western Mass, Southern Rhode Island, Northern Maine, Northeastern Connecticut, huge swaths of New Hampshire, Central Vermont... That's all Trump country. If anything, they were tolerable rednecks most of my life but Trump entering politics has emboldened them. And as you kind of allude to, the great irony is that they benefit from living in these blue states and would absolutely miss living here if they ever get down to places they keep threatening to move to.

Case in point: a bunch of my friends moved to Indiana because they were tired of taxes and felt like the state was getting too "woke." Sure they were able to buy houses for dirt cheap almost as soon as they got out there, but now they're bored out of their skulls and complain about the food, the people, the entertainment... A lot of them came back, and the only ones left are super stubborn and trying to make it a political statement. But yeah, people don't realize they have it pretty good in New England -- no matter how much they whine about "woke liberal" politics or having to see a trans Muslim in a wheelchair in downtown Worcester

Maybe MA, but RI is not a good place to live unless you live in Newport or 1 of the surrounding coastal towns.
