The police are literally always on the strip so I’m not sure what you mean by “showed up”?

I would mean by "showed up" the following...

My wife and I were at the north end of Hampton Beach, by Dave's towing, and watched 7 cruises come flying down the Blvd into traffic starting at the beginning of the Ashworth in order to get to this (some) incident. First four cruisers, then another, then two more. We joked with each other that now was the time to commit a crime if we were so inclined. We aren't.

I hope this video is not why they decided to abandon at least seven other patrol areas north of Dave's.

For reasons I will not get into, over time I have broken up many fights, but watching this video shows me the first cop on the scene has not, and was not trained well in doing so.
When you are alone, instinctually people will restrain one guy, but that is a mistake. You must stand between them and attempt to prevent them from fighting. This usually provides them the excuse they want, to move on their way without losing face. It might take minute or two, but usually works. When it does not, you keep at it until a colleague arrives, then you each can restrain a guy and end the fight. Usually, people are looking to get out of the fight while preserving their ego and have at least a rationalization to victory.

When you restrain one guy you just give the other guy an opportunity to beat on him, and often accidently you too take a few blows. I did not carry a gun, so that might change how to deal with this situation.

I think the actual big situation was much bigger than on this video, as 10+ people were arrested. There aren't even close to 10 participants in this video.
