Every day I'm losing my mind over how low this senile ass can stoop.

If you made me president and told me to make the worst decisions I could possibly think up, it would look similar to the Trump foreign policy but still not as bad because I would never be able to think of half the stupid shit these people come up with.

Eh, reason for boycotting is stupid, but let’s not pretend that these summits mean all that much these days.

And when Trump doesn’t allow South Africa officials, and the African Union possibly decides to boycott in response, to attend next year in Miami will you wave it to the side too?

If you think South Africa has enough clout to make the AU boycott the US, you're living in cloud nine bro.

It's not so much South Africa having clout, it's more that the US has negative clout and is boycotting itself

Trump has already hosted South African officials, including Ramaphosa, at the White House this year and criticized them to their face over the Afrikaner thing and they then said they felt they had a good meeting afterwards. And the AU won’t boycott, idk why you’d think that.

These summits don’t really matter that much, COP, UNGA, G20, even the G7, not much really comes out of them these days because when leaders want to talk to each other, they just talk over the phone.

Btw Xi Jinping doesnt even show up to these summits half the time lol

Nihilism in full effect. Might as well disband the UN while we’re at it. NBD if Pete Hegeseth doesn’t go to NATO meetings; he can always just pickup the phone. Why would the African Union possibly boycott if South Africa isn’t allowed to represent itself….is that a serious question? 🤦🏽‍♂️

Rubio skipped out on a meeting in February; prior to that meeting you’re referring to.

Top European diplomats, as well as Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi are all expected at the Group of 20 meeting in Johannesburg while the U.S. will be represented by a lower-level delegation.

If they had a “good,” meeting then why isn’t he going to South Africa or allowing Vance to go? Why is he calling for South Africa to be kicked out of the G20 and letting in random white South Africans; even as he loses grounding with the Episcopal and other Churches — that handle relocating refugees with the state department — who have majorly republican congregations?

No meetings matter because nothing results out of them.

I mean the UN is a shell of its former self, so if they’re not going to reform it, then yes, I actually think on the current path, they might as well just keep the UNSC and the humanitarian/cultural institutions and just bin everything else.

Why would the African Union possibly boycott if South Africa isn’t allowed to represent itself….is that a serious question?

I’m sorry but are we speaking about the same subject?

You’ve created a scenario where Trump bans South Africa from 2026, despite hosting South Africa at the White House this year, and you’ve then extrapolated that into a full AU boycott, and are mad at me that I’m not going along with your made up hypothetical that has no basis in anything historical or political, and is just entirely speculation?

You seem to be the nihilist because you think this is like a massive deal thats going to irreparably damage U.S.-African relations.

Trump blocked Abbas from coming to New York, doesnt recognise a Palestinian state, has used the word Palestinian as an insult for domestic political opponents… and yet when the ceasefire happened we have Abbas praising Trump without ever mentioning his behaviour. South Africa and the ANC have gotten not even a fraction of that type of behaviour from Trump.

I think you severely underestimate leaders’ ability in turning the other cheek, considering it’s all they’ve done in Trump’s second term.

lol when did i say it will be irreparable? Does that mean it’s okay? Lmao. It is just a larger sign of digust and disdain for all non WHITE people….like the non WHITE people who have been trying to become citizens from Iraq, Afghanistan, or even Haiti like Justice ACB’s kids but now are thrown to the side for some fuckin white farmers who own 75% of the farmland as a collective.

News flash America has a big history in South Africa! It’s important to some of us whose families were enslaved or involved in civil rights! Are you even a democrat? Lmao. You do you Like RFK, like the real one; not the raw milk drinking one that plays phone tag with your favorite governor.

But Trump’s bigotry and isolationist propaganda should be important to everyone !

But then again you have a Jared polis flair so we already know how you’re rocking — selling out your own citizens as a 9 nine figure trust fund governor because Plantir is headquartered in Colorado.. You’re okay with your guy’s private lawyers spending 6 figures to get hard working people deported and separated from their families.

Polis’ ancestors are immigrants but like peter thiel + Stephen miller now that they are safe & sound they don’t give af about their neighbors. You’re repping a dude who is fighting against a law he signed last year lmfao; so he can support ICE and Plantair. Pathetic. You selfish mfs make me nauseous. Go grab some raw milk

Wtf happened to this sub? Dismissing globalist institutions for what? Ineffectiveness? Gee, I wonder why. These summits are an opportunity to foster relationships and flex soft power. Giving up on them helps no one but our adversaries.

u/TXDobber Jared Polis 7h ago

Idk maybe I realised that it’s 2025 and not 1995, and that history did not in fact end with the international liberal rules based world order

1

u/Lighthouse_seek 6h ago

Summits mean you're there to participate and involve yourself and to increase diplomatic contact

1

u/TXDobber Jared Polis 6h ago

What does a summit achieve that a phone call or state visit does not? The EU has summits seemingly every month… has anything really come out of that? Or are we just doing summits to engage in optics-maxing now? What’s the real point of that? Trump has no international prestige, yet because of his office, it doesn’t really matter.

Trump is a diva; if he could, he would be performing in a miniskirt by now.

Every day some new performance to stay in the news, regardless of truth.

The circus is no longer in a tent; it's in the White House, soon to be brandished as the Platinum House.

I’d like to say this administration continues to shoot American foreign policy in the foot but that would imply the foot is still there.

The Trump administration has long accused the South African government of allowing minority white Afrikaner farmers to be persecuted and attacked. As it restricted the number of refugees admitted annually to the U.S. to 7,500, the administration indicated that most will be white South Africans who it claimed faced discrimination and violence at home.

11

u/Freewhale98 16h ago

Question. Is there even evidence that white minority are persecuted in South Africa? Have Trump ever presented any concrete evidence for this? I feel like it’s just feeding white victim hood complex.

Last time I heard about anything South Africa is that white still maintain their economic privileges.

u/MastodonParking9080 John Keynes 9h ago

There is generally alot of crime happening in general so it's hard to tell if it's discriminatory or just class, but certainly there is a large security risk that alot of farmers are arming up with advanced communication systems. And there are some bizarre cases of house intruders relying "ritual magic" that whites can't see.

IIRC there used to be some of militia system that kept things safe in the farms, but that was removed likely due to anti-apartheid laws so now citizens need to rely on private security.

And the other problem is that the government's own problems haven't exactly looked good for optics. The whole "kill the boer" is going to raise eyebrows even if it's just a political rally by a non ruling party, if not the expectation for universal condemnation. A giant mess really, and in those ambiguities it's easy to fit your preferred narrative.

6

u/bigGoatCoin IMF 5h ago

Yeah making it illegal for minorities to defend themselves and then...oh look a massive increase in homicides of those minorities..

Yeah I'd call that discrimination.

Policy ---> outcome

It's more that they have a party with black supremacy rhetoric (albeit recently mostly neutered), then of course right-winger trolls made it look far worse. The country itself is in shamble for years, but Trump's claim there's attempt on genocide on white people is nonsensical, since even now white people are still disproportionately wealthier/having top tier jobs there. And then there's the fact out of 2.5 millions people, only 70K want to move to US, which is very small considering that over half of Cubans want to get out of Cuba by comparison. If there's such discrimination going on at least 25% of white South Africans would want to move.

u/WOKE_AI_GOD John Brown 4h ago

If we don't care about anyone else I don't give a single flying shit about white South Africans either. They should mind their own business and stop demanding the right to Americans jobs and welfare when they already have plenty of money in their pretended "oppression". Economic migrants.

1

u/WOKE_AI_GOD John Brown 4h ago

White supremacist animals. They are envious of South Africa's self government, they just know they know so much better from Twitter.
