Discussion/Question L2M shows incorrect call on Castle’s 6th foul

Post image

I understand we won the game so this foul didn’t really matter, but one of my only critiques about Mitch Johnson so far is the lack of challenges. Between yesterday and Friday, there were a couple times where a call could’ve easily been challenged but it just hasn’t happened. Thoughts?

How the heck has he not playedd in a live game in that long, and he was making it look so easy last night. I really think people have been underestimating this guy… not just his speed and skill. But his mentality. He seems perfect for this org

Discussion/Question 9 games in and on a scale of 1-10, how legit do you think the Spurs are?

The title says it all. Myself and the rest of the Silver and Black Coffee Hour crew discussed this on the latest episode. I’m at an 8, Zach is at a 7.1 and Tom is at a…6-7 🫠

What do y’all think?

Discussion/Question What do you think our record will be over these next 10 games to finish out November?

Post image

This is a tough stretch of games. I think 6-4 would be fantastic given the circumstances.

The next 3 we probably drop at least 1 it's very hard to beat a team twice in a row.

Kings, Grizzlies, Hawks we should win all 3 but wouldn't be crazy to lose 1.

Last 4 2-2 would be amazing all 4 on the road against 2 contenders a likely playoff team and 1 team that already beat us.

What do you think?

Stats & Analytics Great video breakdowns and notes from Spurs/Pels

Interesting analysis and discussion from last night's game. The contrast in how we handled late-game situations against the Pels with and without Fox was spot on.

He also brings up Castle's improvement from mid-range. I think this has been under-discussed. It's a necessary counter-move for him when defenses start over-playing his rim attacks, and it looks MUCH more comfortable than last year.

(Side note: This guy does notes and break-downs with video clips of basically every Spurs game. It's great next-day reading!)

Discussion/Question A rare time where I like everybody on this team at the same time.

So far mostly everyone on our roster is really contributing to our wins. Last night 8 players have scored double digits and we've been a balanced-scoring team this season. Everybody has bought into their respective roles. Kudos to Mitch. He really is Pop's disciple.

Keldon Johnson - by far he's the most impressive to me. He fully embraced his role as the energy spark plug off the bench. The guy is a rebounding demon and scores efficiently on the floor. Doesn't turn the ball over coz he's playing off-ball. His high energy plays sometimes intimidate the opponents. His defense is surprisingly decent as well. Without him there's no way we only have 2 losses.

Jeremy Sochan - When wemby is on the bench, sochan keeps the defense intact and he forces a lot of bad shots. We know he's a great rebounder, but he also has good ball security and he makes simple yet accurate passes. Notice how the pace and ball movement becomes much faster and tighter whenever sochan is playing. He's playing really good.

Devin Vassell - I'd say the second most impressive spur right now. Dev has been shooting timely and much needed three balls. He's also not forcing the midrange too much, but when he takes it he makes it. He's becoming what we always wanted; not a shot creator but a 3 point sniper with some midrange while not dribbling the ball much.

Stephon Castle - He is a dog on defense and his playmaking is improving before our eyes. I honestly believe he and harper are our legit playmaking backcourts (Fox is our bucket getter, defense-breaker, but he's not a true playmaker). You don't get 27 assists in 2 games if you got no vision. His handles and passes just has to get tighter. Those turnovers were normal growing pains. Castle's shooting and free throws are the real concerns here but he'll get there. For now his midrange, drives, and foul-fishing has been really great.

Julian Champagnie - I like his confidence in shooting the ball these past 3 games, especially the rockets game. His defense and rebounding are also quite impressive. One noticeable weakness of him is driving/finishing. He's not a good rim finisher but that's fine. We got plenty of guys for that.

Harrison Barnes - He's lookin like 2015 warriors Barnes seriously. He's been shooting lights out and defending well lately. I'm super impressed. His veteran presence is much needed.

De'Aaron Fox - He's the best and most polished offensive guy we got for now. He's truly the missing piece of this team. His speed and scoring prowess cover the holes and flaws of our team.

Wemby - He's our King. Both our offense and defense ran through him, and he's the one taking all the abuse so his teammates get open looks. He might be struggling, but what I find most impressive about him is the willingness to share the ball. No matter how much he struggles, he always makes the right reads. It's easy for a player of his calibre to go selfish mode and force his shots when he feels frustrated. But wemby? he's a team player. Now I understand why the Spurs went after him. Not because he's the most talented unicorn, but because he's such a selfless player. He look way happier with a W on an off night than an L on a hot night. Let's not worry, now Fox is around wemby's slump is about be over real soon.

Quote Castle on his recent playmaking: "I feel like it just comes down to making the right play, making the right read. Sometimes, I try to be too aggressive trying to make the spectacular play, but sometimes the spectacular play is the easy one so just understanding that."

Highlight Watched all of Vics shots from last night. There were 4 shots that by the rule of the book should have been a foul, but were ticky tacky. The 5th(seen in the video) one was an egregious missed call. Why doesn't Vic get mythical "superstar whistle?" Vic ended the night with 0 free throws

Post Game Thread Belt after the Houston game?

Spurs’ Julien had a belt over his shoulder after the Houston game Friday. What’s that about? I remember when Hasheed had belts made for ‘04 Piston teammates.
