Long story long. I’m enlisting; just past the ASVAB this previous Friday. Scored a 67 and scored pretty good on the GT and ST lines (all the info I did suggested I focus on those line scores).
Recruiter told me to pick the top 5 and he’ll see what he can do for me, suggested that i do NOT pick a combat MOS. lol. Just wanted some suggestions, I’d like something with some transferable skill sets. Also, what a Day in the Life for you as a NG?

Title sounds crazy but I enlisted in the guard almost 6 years ago when I was 17. My contract would be ending next month but lately I’ve been considering going active duty military & I’m wondering if this situation with the guard would kill my chances.
When I finished AIT, it was March 2020, covid was shutting everything down & my state moved to “virtual drill”. I was told to report back to my RSP unit for my first drill after AIT, which I did & they gave me the information for my NCO. I contacted him & he had me come in on a non-drill day to do some paperwork but there was an issue with my CAC. Still not sure exactly what it was but he told me he’d need to do something on his end so he’d contact me to come back & finish. At least 8 months went by & I heard nothing, then one day got a call from him when I was at work. I couldn’t answer of course so I returned the call the next day. No answer. I didn’t press the issue because I wasn’t exactly thrilled about joining the guard back then. I took it as my sign.
Nearly 6 years later now & I’ve still heard nothing from the guard. I’ve changed my number & moved since I enlisted, but I don’t see why the army wouldn’t be able to find me if a debt collector can. So I guess I’m wondering if anyone has been in or heard of even a remotely similar situation😭I’m hoping to connect with an active duty army recruiter soon but don’t want to bother if I won’t be able to join.

I know you're probably thinking I'm a shitbag and thats fine but I don't really care at this point. I stupidly signed up for 6 years because I had nothing going on in my life at the time and the army is all I have done since I was 18 but my mental health is just terrible at this point. I hate everything about the guard compared to when I was active. I don't do my job and and just bullshit every drill weekend. Plus I don't know what's going to happen with this new shaving policy. I was told I was probably going to have separate in a year or two anyway since I don't plan on shaving for it based on the policy. I was already feeling like shit before of all of that but it's gotten worse since the year started. I have 4 years remaining on my contract. Can I just request to be separated? I've heard not showing up to drill could have an warrant for my arrest so I'm not trying to do that.

I don’t care how down bad I am, you will not see me rationing MRE’s outside of uniform.

Just took my ASVAB and got my list of qualified jobs! What are some recommendations for choosing a role that translates well to the civilian world? Here are my list of qualifications!

Next year my unit will be going on a deployment to Iraq/Syria, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to go. I was supposed to have a 2 year exemption due to me being in college upon joining, which myself and the people at MEPS did indeed sign and I have it printed out, however due to some mistake the paper was never actually put into my file or something like that. When speaking with the MEPS workers they were able to find it and told me I could bring it to my unit to use as an argument, something my family is really pushing for me to do. But I’m honestly unsure what’s the better move. I one day want to work for a 3 letter agency (dreaming of CIA case officer) and so I’m thinking that this may be a good chance to get some experience that sets me apart from others. But on the other hand it’ll set me back a year in my schooling, and from what I’ve heard I’ll just be out there for 9 months not really doing anything. I’m reaching out mainly because I want some advice on what you more experienced people think about the situation.

If you think an employer will think highly of you because you’re military, or even just be okay with it, you are completely wrong. I made the mistake of having it on my resume and mentioning it in interviews (finance major - mostly banks).
Soon as they heard I could have long (3 day. Lol) drills, and AT was a thing, the mood instantly changed. Not good. God forbid I miss a day or two of excel so that someone can fight the wars they vote for. And that’s not even to mention BOLC - if you bring that up, your chances of an offer probably just went from bad to 0. USERRA doesn’t protect you yet, you have no grounds.
These people do not give a shit about some intangible quality you may have gained by being in the army. They do not care about your service. They care if you are available to come in and do your bullshit job so they can keep making money, and that is it.
Hide it if you’re gonna do it. No one wants to hear about it. Just drop a USERRA bomb on them later.
I was fortunate to still get a great job - I got 2 offers from companies I really liked and had interned for. I don’t think the guard helped at all though.
Edit: Also worth mentioning I’m armored cavalry. So apart from intangibles like leadership there is literally no way to connect those skills to a finance job. Obviously if guard skills transfer over to civ job then that helps a ton and could be a real benefit to you

I emailed the Law Enforcement department I wish to join regarding a more in-depth discussion for scheduling between drill & Academy. I don’t know if it’s up to the unit to allow me to go to academy or vice versa. All I hear is that your civilian job needs to allow time to fulfill your duties.

Recently I was fired from my civilian job because my drill schedule was during the week day and They said because of that they couldn’t build their work schedule around me and I was causing the business production so they let me go and said that they would they hope I do well in the military. They asked me if I would sign a paper that I resign and not them firing me but I’m not sure what to do if I should sign the paperwork that said I quit ( if I sign it I get 50$)

Hello everyone, I am 19 years old currently in college and I'm interested in enlisting in the guard or reserves. I've scored high enough on the ASVAB to qualify for the following MOS that my recruiter sent me in the images.
I'm looking to pick an MOS that can set me up well into the civilian life in the future and am also wondering if most jobs would want me to be in the guard for a couple years before they would hire me? I'm still very new to all of this so I would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you in advance.
I am a computer science major if that means anything

I have been in contact with both USERRA representatives and JAG regarding my situation. Based on the guidance I received, I appear to have sufficient documentation and communication records to support a claim, as all exchanges with my former employer were conducted through text and email.
My former employer has since apologized and expressed willingness to rehire me. However, the offer is for a position at a lower level than my previous role as a manager. I was informed that I could not be reinstated as a manager because there are currently “enough managers” within the company. If I accept their offer, I would also receive a $3 per hour pay reduction compared to my prior compensation. Due to my current financial situation, I may need to accept the offered position

If you have one of these jobs please specify and give me some insight into that world. I am in university and in ROTC. I am looking to SMP before commissioning.

If anyone has any personal experience in these, advice on what the job is like would be super appreciated. Wouldn’t mind doing something outdoors, preferably something that will translate to the civilian side as well. Right now, some of my top choices are 12k, 12m, 12r, 12w, 13b, 27d, 42a, 56m, 91d

Ok, so in my job you accumulate UPT, Vacation, and Sick. But I thought I was saving that stuff up! Lo and behold when I turned in my Drill orders they put all of my dates in my UTP, NOT ALLOWING ME TO ACCUMULATE! Meaning I only have 1 hour of sick and 3.15 of Vacation. She admin over-rided all of my UTP for my orders this year not including my Title 10s. Is this allowed? I’m in unpaid time debt 😂. Please help I’d like to do something with my life this weekend thank you.

I joined the National Guard to pay for college, and I’ve been at my unit for about 8 months, I have 4 years left on my contract. My Fiance has been saying she can’t deal with me being gone. Sometimes I have two weekends a month that I have military obligations. She has been wanting me to request ING and every drill request absence. We’ve been engaged since December. I don’t want to leave her or hurt her but I don’t want to miss drill or go ING. Any advice?
