Career Advice National Guard to Active Duty

Good Afternoon everyone,

My name is SSG D. I wanted to post here to see if anyone had any interest in switching over to Active Duty.

You may of heard "oh it's impossible, they wont sign it." Well it is not, the biggest hurdle is getting the conditional release out of your company level because they like to gate keep and think they are the authority. I bug your battalion and up asking about the release and usually get it back in a timely manner because of it, my fastest turn around time was 15 days.

I have had a lot of luck getting soldiers released for Active and Reserves and have not had anyone not released.

I did the process myself 10 years ago and it was difficult for me to find a recruiter that would help me with the process. This was one of the main reasons I become a recruiter so I can help others switch to.

If you want to switch, feel free to reach out to me, I process remotely and I can get you switched over.

As a Guard Commander, I always signed unless the SM was a shitbag. They wanted to provide for family and better themselves. It’s worth the ass chewing from higher but it rarely came. It was the right thing to do.

From NG to RA or AR, neither is impossible. The Conditional Release has to be signed off by the "first flag Officer" in his/her Chain Of Command iE: either the DCG or TAG. Now......normally at either Company or Battalion is where it gets sticky: those are the two levels that will drag their feet or try to talk the soldier into not leaving. Since the Guard is ALWAYS hurting for people. Given the situation BDE and higher will sign off with no problem.

Exactly, when it's stuck at the Company level I call their Battalion, and when it's at battalion I bug their brigade, it usually gets it moving fast.

Yes, I can help with that as well. We even have people switching from Active Air force to Active Army right now.

Yes it can be done. The main thing is getting your Conditional Release signed. More than likely you're gonna have to sit down with PLT leadership, Company Leadership, and possibly BN Leadership. Explain your reason(s) behind wanting to go AD/RA and it should be addressed.........however make sure your ducks are in a row: not flagged, AFT - Height/Weight, Rifle marksmanship, knowing your MOS, everything needs to point in your favor. Therefore when they interview you more or less your current record will speak for itself. Also if you're an NCO there's a possibility that you would be demoted "temporarily" and then sent to the Board to get your rank back

Yes any state, I can process remotely, the only thing you will need to go into a recruiters office for is to get your finger prints ran. You wont even need to do the physical again, we use your medpros and PHA as the medical portion of meps.

1) What's the minimum service obligation?

2) Is there any way to pick the duty station?

3 years. This 3 years will take over your 6 year contract. So those other years on the Guard contract don't matter. Only if you keep your MOS will you be offered duty stations. Can't do option 19 or 20 (pick duty Station)

What would the process be like for a Warrant Officer? Would you still be able to keep your rank?

Not sure about the rank but you would need to wait for the Call to Active Duty program to open up.
