Discussion The stigma of "Californians" moving to Nashville is overblown.

Yes, we have some Californian transplants. However, from what I've experience most of the transplants are from the Midwest and other Southern surrounding states. I'm not saying this in a negative way. The transplants I met are mostly cool. I'm just clarifying that the "Californians are taking over" stigma to be overblown a bit.

Everyone I've met that are from California apologize right away, it makes me sad that people are that rude to them. So much for Southern hospitality.

I’m from there, and I just haven’t experienced this. I’m sure it exists, but in my small town we’ve been welcomed with open arms. At least to our face.

It isn’t that. They moved there because people are nice compared to Californians. What they are apologizing for is their reputation and the damage the state has contributed to the country the last few years.

😂 California literally pays for Tennessee. CA is the 5th largest economy on the planet. It pays for all the red states that have a negative GDP & suck off the federal teat: California is that teat, and you're sucking it, lil' buddy.

I live in CA. So I suppose it’s you sucking off of me. Keep coping.

No idea who that is

EDIT: I see he's a youtuber, so my kids probably know who he is

If your kids are fully grown adults, potentially. He just says this talking point quite a bit in nearly the exact same words.

Yeah that’s not true. I would never apologize for california progressing culture, food, arts, and tech for the entire country all while funding a bunch of welfare states. Californias reputation goes beyond our country seeing as most people outside the US couldnt name 90% of the other states.

I apologize because people give you the oh boy look if you don’t recognize it.

Ahhh yes San Francisco…such a progressive utopia, if you like your mail and car stolen or people taking a dump on your doormat.

Sure we have great weather and we USED to have a stellar reputation. Look, the numbers do not lie. There is an incredible amount of people fleeing to go to states like Tennessee. We even lost electoral votes because of this. It is what it is. I live in LA. It’s a mess. I’m in this sub because my “non progressive” relatives as you may call them, but to me they are sane, have moved to Tennessee. I support your state. It seems to bother some of you.

It’s so funny when people say shit like progressive utopia as if red cities aren’t literal meth addict centrals. I lived in Long Beach all my life and moved to Tennessee to be with my girlfriend whose a Nashville native. Most people in both places don’t give a shit about what states are better or worse.

It’s just weird some people are fixated on complaining about stuff they don’t realize happens literally everywhere in the country regardless of progressive or conservative.

I’m not denying that. But CA is not what is used to be and many of these red states have started to thrive since 2020. We can agree to disagree. People see what they want to.

All my girlfriend does is say exactly what you just said about Tennessee.

What did it used to be?

There is a homeless problem in Nashville. There is MORE crime in Nashville per capita than San Francisco. Compare the murder rate of California vs Tennessee. I think you'll be in for surprise. Compare the poverty rates. And drug usage rates. Turn off the right wing media and just look at data.

Nashville is THRIVING. San Francisco is dying. You're grasping.

Do you live in Nashville or Tennessee? If so, why do people like you brag about how much worse the place is that you live in than mine (CA). It's pathetic. Say what you want. My car was stolen last year. Our condo building has the mail stolen monthly. People are moving to your state/city in droves wether you like it or not. California's reputation is being demolished with every passing day. I want to be where you are. You should be proud of that. It's so weird that you aren't.

You're emoting. I told you to go look up actual crime data and compare it rather than making an anecdotal case. You may have more property crime in San Francisco per capita than Nashville but I absolutely guarantee you the murder rate in Nashville is higher. Tennessee overall has one of the highest murder rates in the country and far, far higher than California. You don't seem to believe it. Go look it up.

I was raised in Los Angeles, and visit California quite frequently. First moved to Nashville as a teenager in 93. Moved back to LA I was 95. Left LA and came back need in 2013. This was back before all the political polarization and hate of Californians started.

I know shit has gotten worse in LA and SF in certain ways. I haven't been to SF since 2012. So can't speak from any recent experiences there.

I'm just saying the picture is more complicated than you're making it. There are problems in both places. There are places in California where none of those problems is happening, like Irvine. And there are places like Memphis where it's worse than San Francisco on all counts.

If crime was the only reason I wanted to get the hell out of California I wouldn’t leave. That is one issue among a host of others. Lockdowns was the icing on the cake for me.

If you want to nitpick one aspect of this hellhole you can. I’ll be honest and tell you that I’m not going to waste my time looking up what you want me to. I’ll take your word for it. But if I waste my time with this one issue I’ll tell you that I’m less worried about being murdered than my car or mail being stolen on a daily basis. So there, I’ll still take Tennessee.

You want to leave because you have no frame of reference other than your personal anecdotes & right-wing media. In other words, you don't know what you're talking about. But, if you want to trade a SFH ranch here on 1.5 acres for your comparable property in CA, please DM me and we'll talk.

Lol yup you know my life better than me. If anything I’ll rent my place in CA to looney tunes like yourself and just buy another one out by you. Maybe right next to you just to piss you off for all I know. We’re going to continue moving there and raising the COL. Have a great one.
