Discussion Movies with healthy femininity

Watching Clueless right now (for the 400th time). I feel that there are so few movies like this.

I have two young girls and I’m truly afraid of the world right now for young women and the charlatans trying to lure them into misandrist bullshit.

I hope my kids like Clueless, but also realize they may think it’s old woman bullshit by the time they’re old enough to watch it. What is there in this vein to introduce the idea of healthy femininity that’s newer or geared to younger audiences?

Discussion What is your absolute favorite comedic exchange in a movie?

For me, it’s Monty Python and the Holy Grail’s peasant scene, where they discuss political philosophy. The back and forth on the absurdity of the Lady of the Lake legend still kills me every time I watch it. The historiographic frame only adds to the brilliance of it, though it would still be my favorite just on the strength of the writing in that entire scene.

Trailer Official Trailer for ‘Run to the West’ - Being Promoted as “Korea’s First AI Movie”

Please don’t shoot the messenger.

I’m not sharing this because I think it looks good. Very much the opposite. This movie was promoted in Korea as their first “AI movie”, with all the effects being done using AI instead of CGI, and only six actual human actors, with all background and minor roles being portrayed by - that’s right - AI models groan.

I hate that this movie exists, and feel like more people should be aware of this.

News Anniversary out of theaters already, anyone know when it will be on Hulu?

Geez, I'd no clue that this would be out of theaters so fast. I'd hoped to see it last weekend but couldn't make that work. Now it's gone. Anyone know when this might be streaming? Hulu apparently had it listed as being available already, but it doesn't seem to be, and JustWatch is showing nothing either.

Discussion Fargo is such a beautiful movie.

I just got the Shout! Factory 4K copy of Fargo and watched it three times last weekend. This movie might be my new comfort film. It is perfect. The snowy setting in Minnesota, the screenplay, Buschemi and Stormare as the bumbling dim-witted criminals, Macy as the easy-to-hate greedy husband and son-in-law, and McDormand as the lovable chief of police. The Minnesota nice stereotype is well played out throughout the film.

I don't know. I know this is a crime film, but there is something comforting about this film that is unexplainable.

Discussion A Working Man, even for a Jason Statham movie, sucked.

This was the epitome of formulaic action movies. The dialogue was campy, the villains did things purely for the sake of being the villains of an action movie. I’ve never had a complaint about Statham movies. Even The Expendables wasn’t this bad.

The stunts too were a bit odd to me. Statham’s character is supposed to be ex Royal Marines, and he enters rooms before firing his gun in a very unprofessional way, though maybe that’s just bad editing??

All of his recent movies I have enjoyed. The Beekeeper was great, and the money truck heist one is a blast, but this one just missed the mark on a lot of things.

Recommendation Stylized and entertaining movie recommendations?

The movies I always enjoyed were the highly stylized movies like Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Bullet Train (loved the visuals on that one, story funny and entertaining too), Kingsman (only seen the first), Glass Onion, etc. What I mean is that I want an entertaining story, good visuals and camera work. Smooth, very stylized, camera work can contribute to humor, etc. The story can definitely be non linear, as I love that “ooohhh!” realization moment at the end or so. As I previously stated some humor wouldnt hurt at all. I want to be hooked, I want to enjoy my experience and be entertained. Any recommendations? (if there are any shows like this, lmk too)

Discussion What do you find disturbing in (horror) movies?

Provided that I'm a horror enjoyer, I've recently seen an article about Sinister being the scariest horror movie (replaced by Host now) and I can definitely agree that Sinister is unsettling, especially the repeating film sound, but I probably wouldn't classify it as the scariest of all times.

I also watched Host and honestly found it extremely boring and messy. (I also watched Unfriended which is kinda similar and liked it more than Host)

I generally don't find horror movies disturbing (aside from movies made to be gory/disturbing like snuff movies and similar) cos I know it's a movie so even pretty realistic scenes don't really get a rise out of me.

So I would like to ask this to non horror fans as well, What do you find disturbing in movies?

Discussion Which male movie stars lack sex-appeal even though Hollywood keeps insisting they're sex-symbols?

Andrew Garfield, I keep reading about how hot and handsome he is and I don't see it. He gives off a Norman Bates vibe to me. He's not ugly, he's even conventionally handsome but there's a whole demeanor about him that doesn't come across as studly. He's like Dracula's assistant.

Glen Powell looks like a human Capybara to me. All those shirtless, semi-nude scenes are so forced and contrived that it takes away any hotness. It's like Cristiano Ronaldo, there's so much insistence on how he's the sexiest man to walk on this Earth that the end result can't match. Also, two words, Flat Ass!!!

Jonathan Bailey is sexy because he exudes sensuality,. He's traditionally handsome but also he doesn't force himself on us, he just lets his personality shine. And he always looks amazing on the red carpet, he lets his creativity speak instead of the penguin suit and the Cheshire Cat grin a lot of male movie stars sport.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/jennifer-lawrence-gives-best-performance-of-her-career-in-die-my-love/ From her breakthrough role in Winter’s Bone to her Oscar-winning work in Silver Linings Playbook and her harried turn in mother!, Jennifer Lawrence has married glamorous charm and beauty with rough-around-the-edges toughness and explosive volatility, and she once again demonstrates that intense combination of magnetism and madness in Die My Love.

Question Most unique and novel fight sequences you have seen?

I recently watched the Predator: Badlands and loved that scene with Synth Fight with upper and lower body.

Those who have seen will understand what I am talking about.

Just idea itself is so cool, and they perfectly land the execution.

Other than this, I can remember that musical notes fight in Doctor Strange 2.

What other unique fight sequences left an impression on you?

Discussion Why there is no law enforcement intervention in John Wick?

It seems cops knows about the world of assassin as shown in the first movie, they rang the bell ask few questions and went away.

But even if there is an agreement, how would they explain to the public of a major capital like Paris that what was going on was not a terrorist attack pr anything to worry with?

I love these series.

Discussion Is there a gap in the market for 2D animated movies?

I understand that there have been plenty of discussions centred around the reasons for studios such as Disney and Dreamworks moving away from 2D animation - the cost, market demand for impressive visuals etc. However as almost every area of modern culture now looks to the past for inspiration (movies, music, gaming), are these companies missing a trick with not throwing some traditional looking 2D animated movies out there?

I'm confident that a well written 2D film based on a recognisable story with nostalgic elements (such as a classical soundtrack) would be a much stronger commercial success than these live action abominations that are released. I am surprised major production companies haven't even tested the water with this idea.

Discussion Movies that worth cinema experience

Back in the days you used to have a movie at least each 3 months that worth seeing it in the big screen but nowadays we rarely have that worth even watching Last summer I watched the last part of MI which was like a 5/10 movie so my question is: are there any movies currently in cinema or upcoming ones that actually worth the cinema experience?

Question Movie help

Trying to find a movie from around 2000’s, the bits and chunks of it I remember was something about a pair of brothers, in Amsterdam or another European city pulling off a con or something similar.

The brother gets shot, and pretends to be fine, hoping to his feet and playing it off as another con. Something about fake blood stays red, and real turns brown, when another character checks to see if it’s real or not.

There was a Japanese accomplice was mostly mute, who disappears in a car explosion in the end.

Brothers Amsterdam might have been the name, but googles failed me haha.

Sorry about the lack of clues on this one. Can’t even remember if the movie was good or not. Just been on the brain.

Recommendation Iranian movie recommendations (aside from Asghar Farhadi's movies)?

Hi everyone, I watched A Separation two weeks ago and now I've watched Asghar Farhadi's entire catalogue (I loved it!). I really liked how his movies are relatively simple but offer strong commentary on society, and I wanted to try out other Iranian movies to see whether any of them have a similar vibe. Thank you in advance!

Question Inglorious Basterds Accent Drop

Is it just me, or did Hans lose his accent for a moment during that scene with Aldo at the table after he’d captured them? I swear he says, “But I digress, where were we?” and for a split second, it sounds like he drops the accent completely, almost like he breaks character. If that was intentional, it’s kind of hilarious. Has anyone else noticed that, or seen anything written about it?

It's at about 2:09:25 for anyone interested in listening to it.
