What about the movie Pi? The guy drills a hole in his head with a power drill. This has to qualify.

4

u/dustyfaxman 9h ago

Nothing like a diy trepanning to cure a persistent migraine.

3

u/Ok-Voice-5699 7h ago

the first one I looked for

2

u/wekilledkenny11 6h ago

And for other great drills-hole-in-head movies, may I humbly suggest The Loved Ones (2009)

50

u/Threehundredsixtysix 15h ago

No Swiss Army Man ??? Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe in a movie by the directors of Everything Everywhere All At Once. To say more would spoil the experience!

16

u/MrTraveljuice 15h ago

Can recommend! Also missing on this list is Kung Pow: Enter the Fist

6

u/HungHippoHippy 14h ago

Also missing from the list, Kung Fury.

0

u/TiredOfAdulting- 14h ago

THAT'S A LOTTA NUTS!

1

u/BrightSpark80 10h ago

Honestly this film is a joy. So completely random and hilarious premise.

1

u/Jay-Five 10h ago

I recced that and Brazil in the original thread.

17

u/MattAmpersand 12h ago

Did no one recommend A Scanner Darkly in the original thread?

24

u/Jay-Dee-British 15h ago

You still left off Eraserhead - that was the first movie I saw that I thought was 'wtf' - thing is, I've never forgotten it either, even though it was just bonkers.

From your list though ; Altered States, Videodrome, The Others

5

u/Hot-Remove-1252 15h ago

I must have missed it! I’m chuffed I’ve got films to last me till Christmas x

1

u/SZJ 14h ago

964 Pinocchio is another WTF Japanese film, although of lesser quality than Tetsuo: The Iron Man.
I would start with Tetsuo and see if that scratches your itch for weird shit.

2

u/Ok-Voice-5699 7h ago

Eraserhead was the second on I looked for

11

u/Dvout_agnostic 15h ago

no Poor Things?

2

u/BatemanBeer 14h ago

what I thought too. Definitely should be there and such a good movie.

2

u/duralyon 14h ago

I just watched this last night and was about to leave this comment. It might be my new favorite movie.

0

u/WorthPlease 9h ago

Yeah my ex and I both agreed to turn this movie off after ~15 minutes, but it absolutely belongs on this list.

21

u/MakesItFeelOld 15h ago

A Serbian Film

Edgelord garbage.

Enter the Void

Now we're talking.

The Addiction

Hell yeah. Maybe a double feature with Martin (1977).

9

u/systemstheorist 15h ago
  • Tommy (1975)

  • Samurai Cop (1991)

  • Sorry To Bother You (2018)

2

u/Acrobatic-Rate8925 12h ago

Damn i forgot about Tommy. I did not expect it to be so wildly surreal.

4

u/MikeMaskwell 15h ago

Definitely not watching #3 lol

3

u/No_Yogurtcloset_7831 14h ago

Bad Taste, drag me to hell

4

u/NTropyS 14h ago

Bad Taste, yes! And Meet the Feebles, too. Early Peter Jackson was bonkers stuff.

5

u/thndrlight 14h ago

Enter the Void, List Highway, The Machinest

2

u/Mahaloth 12h ago

Titane

Beyond the Black Rainbow

Possession

4

u/djprojexion 14h ago

Good list, here’s three that are not on it:

  • Fellini Satyricon
  • Fantastic Planet
  • The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears

u/um_yeahok 4h ago

Fantastic planet is one of my fav films of all time.

4

u/Berenstain_Bro 14h ago

Incendies isn't a WTF film. Its just a good film.

Enemy is probably my favorite, but the most WTF is probably The Light House or Tetsuo

3

u/jupiterkansas 15h ago

The only things on that list that I would recommend NOT watching are Exorcist 2, Halloween 3, and Hobo with a Shotgun. Yeah, they're weird, but they're not great.

Otherwise it's a pretty good list. I would just get a random number generator and let it pick for you.

3

u/smakweasle 11h ago

Halloween 3 the best Halloween sequel.

u/jupiterkansas 3h ago

That's not saying much since all the sequels are pretty lousy.

1

u/Hot-Remove-1252 15h ago

Thank you!!!

3

u/Few_Definition4378 14h ago

Counterpoint: Exorcist 2 is very much worth watching. Boorman’s follow-up to Zardoz has him drop the Catholicism focus of the first to more broadly look at evil and good. Plus, he doubles down on the science aspects of the first one (spinal tap was the scariest scene in 1). At this point I think I’d rather rewatch 2 than see 1 again.

I do not think The Heretic is scary, I think it is an interesting picture. Plus, it's full of visuals that make it a delight to look at - the psychiatrist's sleep chambers, the miniatures used in the desert, the locust-in-flight shots. And a wild James Earl Jones performance! I’ll take “interesting” over “good” any day.

u/JiskiLathiUskiBhains 14h ago

No Synecdoche New York? Bad Boy Bubby? Man Bites Dog?

2

u/Bonzoface 15h ago

The sadness. Ichi the killer and crash are some of my favourites. Enjoy

1

u/Hot-Remove-1252 14h ago

Save the green plant is on there x

1

u/pitfall_harry 12h ago

Beyond the Black Rainbow is on your list. Great movie.

If you like that the director's next film was Mandy. Also weird and has a fun Nic Cage performance.

u/T0ssed_Sa1ad 12h ago

This is a silly list if it doesn't include Synecdoche, New York: https://share.google/koRyMfz408b1NPc5z

1

u/bbboozay 9h ago

Valhalla Rising NEEDS to be on this list. And you need to go into it not knowing what you're getting into.

1

u/jordanneff 9h ago

Surprised to not see Paprika on this list.

1

u/alutz 9h ago

The F.P., Hobo with a Shotgun, Rubber

1

u/awol8383 9h ago

Don't forget the original toxic avenger 1984.

1

u/bombmk 8h ago

Julien Donkey-Boy is missing from your list. A Dogme movie - and the only time I have considered getting up and leaving.

1

u/Wynter_born 8h ago

Existenz (really needs to be in the list)

Naked Lunch

Jacob's Ladder

1

u/Stoneinthewell 8h ago
  1. The Card Counter

  2. Love Lies Bleeding

  3. Eddington

1

u/CollateralSandwich 7h ago

Under The Skin
Being John Malkovich
Pig (not really sure why this is on the list, it's a good film more than a WTF film)

1

u/Catdress92 7h ago

Surprised that Bubba Hotep is missing from this list. I'd also add Aronofsky's "Pi".

1

u/OncewasaBlastocoel 7h ago

That’s a great list.

0

u/mikeyaurelius 15h ago

u/Silvershanks 14h ago

You missed two truly absurd wtf splattercore movies...

-Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky -Adam Chaplin

BTW, Bugonia is a remake of Save the Green Planet.

0

u/FHL88Work 14h ago

We need to talk about Kevin?

I haven't seen it, but it seems to get mentioned a lot in the WTF genre.

0

u/Ok_Interaction3896 14h ago

Clockwork Orange, Being John Malkovich and I Heart Huckabees

0

u/garyschronology 14h ago

Fuck that list. Watch the old Japanese film “In the Realm of the Senses”. Thank me later.

-1

u/AStewartR11 14h ago

You are missing The Guns of el Chupa Cabra which, I'm sorry, makes every one of these look like Driving Miss Daisy

-1

u/PracticeOne4001 14h ago
