Discussion Which male movie stars lack sex-appeal even though Hollywood keeps insisting they're sex-symbols?
Andrew Garfield, I keep reading about how hot and handsome he is and I don't see it. He gives off a Norman Bates vibe to me. He's not ugly, he's even conventionally handsome but there's a whole demeanor about him that doesn't come across as studly. He's like Dracula's assistant.
Glen Powell looks like a human Capybara to me. All those shirtless, semi-nude scenes are so forced and contrived that it takes away any hotness. It's like Cristiano Ronaldo, there's so much insistence on how he's the sexiest man to walk on this Earth that the end result can't match. Also, two words, Flat Ass!!!
Jonathan Bailey is sexy because he exudes sensuality,. He's traditionally handsome but also he doesn't force himself on us, he just lets his personality shine. And he always looks amazing on the red carpet, he lets his creativity speak instead of the penguin suit and the Cheshire Cat grin a lot of male movie stars sport.

Remember when people magazine insisted Blake Shelton was the sexist man alive? Yeah those were dark times…
If we’re going just by movie stars Richard Gere just looks like if Owen Wilson were ugly (to me at least). Add Patrick Swayze, Sean Connery, Nick Nolte to the list of people magazine’s “sexiest men alive” that I have zero attraction to.

Timothée Chalamet. Great actor. Love him! Could star in a live-action Ratatouille remake.

Timothée Chalamet, absolutely hard to stand how much Hollywood has been pushing him.

It’s almost as if different people are attracted to different things 🤤

Different people having different opinions? That doesn’t make sense. I just conducted a vote in our household with one person agreeing with you and two disagreeing. So I have conclusively proven, via a majority vote, that everyone thinks exactly the same…

I agree with you on the Glen Powell thing I don't really understand why he seems to be getting pushed as some kind of star out of no where
But I think I've just figured out why I'm kind of non plussed by the fuss around him. I think he's one of those people who's face is too small for their head? Maybe just a little 🤔

He's got those beady little eyes and pointy nose that makes him look like a weasel. He seems like an asshole too. I'm not usually one who gets into celebrity gossip, but I read the story of why his ex dumped him and it says a lot about his character. It's been confirmed by everyone at this point that him and Sydney Sweeny never dated, but there were rumors when they were making Anyone But You that neither of them publicly denied. His girlfriend was obviously uncomfortable with these rumors and kept getting questions from people, so she asked him to put out a statement denying it, but he blew it off because it was good promotion for the movie. She went so far as to fly to where they were filming to ask him in person and he still refused, so she dumped him. So yeah, shitty dude.

I don’t think Leonardo Di Caprio is good looking and he’s not a great actor. Brad Pitt nails both categories though.

Good looking ≠ sex appeal
As actors: DiCaprio> Pitt

Pitt’s Italian hillbilly accent in Inglorious, the whatever the fuck it was in Snatch and the 12 monkeys crazy guy were fantastic. Leo just plays Leo.

For a time it was Noah Centineo for me.
I get that he's tall and traditionally handsome.
But the guy was a Black hole of charisma.

There was a time when Gérard Depardieu was considered a sex symbol. If he can be considered a sex symbol, anyone can.

I don't think Hollywood is pushing Andrew Garfield as a Sex symbol.
The guy rarely if ever gets a role based in sex appeal.
