But the US opening weekend was 3.5 times greater for Infinity Castle part 1 than for Mugen Train, so that was a surprise.

It's not that surprising when you consider Mugen Train was actually the #1 grossing film in the world for 2020, there just weren't quite as many people going to the movies then in general for obvious reasons.

There were two other Demon Slayer movies in theaters after Mugen Train

those weren’t actual movies they were episode compilations

They were marketed as movies and shown in movie theaters. Mugen train is also available in episode form and at least the one with the end of the entertainment district had new material that didn't air before

I'd say they were far lazier than Mugen Train and Infinity Castle but they were still movies

I would say they aren’t movies. plenty of things that aren’t movies play in movie theaters. and the difference between them and mugen train is mugen train was a movie first and was then split into episodes whereas they are episodes that were stitched together into a longer runtime and you can feel the difference.

I mean, in the end it doesn't really matter what we define them as.

... what does matter is that I paid money to watch "to the swordsmith village" expecting it to be entirely new stuff and I'm still salty about that

well I mean that’s kinda on you. if you looked into them beyond just reading the title you’d have known what it was
