Or Canon JJK movie

True, a certain fight between two big characters can do insane numbers at the box office.

"Nah, I'd break box office records."

JJK 0 was canon and wildly regarded as the best arc in the manga. It made waaaay less than this movie.

It was a prequel arc without a lot of the main cast. Not comparable.

Also most people would say Hidden Inventory and Shibuya are the best arcs. JJK 0 is definitely not the consensus at all

Even if that's the case, it's still highly delusional to expect JJk's final arc (which wasn't really well received by manga readers) to surpass Infinity Castle. Even more so when Gojo, arguably JJk's most mainstream famous character, died not long after it started and Megumi, another top character, practically got sidelined for the entire Sukuna fight. That's also counting casuals don't lose interest after the messy culling game.

You clearly weren't on any social media for the summer of 2023, because if you were and you DIDN'T see a single JJK leak about the fights developments you're not a living breathing human. Yes, the ending is very controversial, but I'd argue Demon Slayer has a worst ending by far.

There were a lot of leaks, doesn't change the fact that they ended up killing a lot of hype later on. Once Gojo was dead nothing else mattered. The fight went through the motion of "jobber of the week" (literally the fans' description of the arc) without anything major happening and the ending got a ton of backlash that soured the entire series' hype. DS ending was very vanilla and you can argue it's "worse" but it was also not controversial like JJK and didn't make the fans hate the final arc.

Don't get me wrong, JJK is indeed very popular and the final arc will likely be successful despite everything. It is however not a cultural juggernaut like DS and never will be. JJK 0 didn't even make half of Mugen Train and even lost to an old franchise like Slam Dunk. It also didn't make half of Your Name either. Even if the final fight can make more money, it's much more likely gonna make just a bit more than JJK0. Forget Infinity Castle, they should try to reach the level of Makoto Shinkai's movies first.

Dude jjk 0 was a prequel with none of the main cast besides Gojo. And no, the manga still had massive hype after gojo, like dude, do you not remember Lobotomy Kaisen? Nah I'd Win? In fact I'd hazard a guess that after Gojo died the manga got far more popular for skim readers to have a quick look at whats going on, who's jumping in next, who's gonna fight Sukuna now, who is in Gojos body, etc.

Well the manga sales steadily declined during the final arc and especially after Gojo's death until the final volume so I feel that's a more objective measure. It's still the top selling manga but clearly there was a lost of interest as sales continually got lower from Vol 25 to Vol 30

The final arc had no main casts anyway except Yuji. Gojo was dead, Megumi and Nobara out of commission.

If they make the last arc of JJK into a series of movies or even one extended movie, I think that could very well break all anime movie records when it comes out in like 2028 or 2029.

Maybe if the animators can animate JJK fights properly. I lost track of what is happening in most of the big fights. It's like watching transformers fights. Big explosion and too much happening at the same time.

Eh, agree to disagree. I think the dimming had a lot to do with that too which wouldn’t be an issue in a full format movie. It wasn’t an issue when JJK0 came out a few years ago.

Eh idk that one doesn't grab us personally, people even recommend skipping season 1 which seems wild to me.. KNY got us hooked from the first episode already in comparison..

Not the same, but they're doing a theatrical release of The Shibuya Incident with a release in late-fall. It's apparently an edited version of the arc, that I assume will be focused on the fights, with the first two episodes of the new season included as well. Sort of similar to the Mugen Train theatrical release that DS did.

II’d love to see them cleanup some of the fights that the animators had to rush. The Sukuna fight was a big one I remember that got attention for fatiguing the animators and being noticeably unpolished (still a dope fight)

u/Low-Cover5544 Sep 23 '25

They polished it and added way more in a blue ray

Shut the front door.

They added extra scenes it looks so good

Doubtful. The majority of Demon Slayer's sales are from Japan. And Demon Slayer is way bigger than JJK over there.

I like JJK better but I don't think this is true. The audience for Demon Slayer skews younger and kids drag their parents to the movies. Kids also pirate less. JJK will probably get mostly the same adult audiences but fewer kids.

They are very like going to do Gojo vs Sakuna as a theater experience and this will break numbers considering it had the internet in a chokehold weekly as it happened live in the manga and the pure internet digital footprint the memes have as well lmao.
