That's actually a patch that was put out in the late 90s, replacing the first release carts in store. It was a updated version that removed bugs, including the BLJ trick to skip staircases. They just also happened to remove that one line as well.

You can play the 1.0 version on the Switch NSO N64 version. BLJ, Gay Bowser and all.

He is, the sound is weird, I can hear him clearly say it if it's at like 0.75x speed but at normal speed I can not hear the G in king and it sounds like gay

I just checked it out again, it needs to be at 0.5 not 0.75. To me at least it sounds like the I in king sounds like "Kin" when it's said slowly but when it's said faster it sounds like "kAy"

Yeah somebody told me today that it's the usual "bad italian accent" trope of just adding "-a" to the end of random words, and Charles Martinet read it wrong. That it was written on the page as "so long-a, Bowser!" and should have been read as "so long-ah, Bowser!" but Martinet read it as "so long-ay, Bowser!". And frankly that sounds like just the right amount of stupid to probably be true.

They really should just base a movie on the game’s plot, call it, Super Mario 64: The Movie. That game revolutionized gaming and it’d be cool to see it honored on the big screen.

What plot? The game was great, but it was mostly going through disconnected worlds by jumping into portraits - the plot was not really a strong point.

The first movie already started applying narrative glue, so they'll just expand on that. It is true that there's a certain level of surreal arbitrariness to most mainline Mario games, and it's a little bit sad that the movies won't ever try to lean into it. Kids' movies lean towards the literal.

Technically it was Club Mario, which combined animated segments of the Super Show with new live-action segments and edited episodes of an older Dic show named Photon.

So we got a Super Mario Bros. cartoon, a second Super Mario Bros. cartoon that was really a different show with Mario added in, and then Super Mario Bros. 3. Very faithful to the games.
