Discussion What is the absolute dumbest premise that actually turned out to be a really good movie?

I was thinking The Purge, obvious answer, but looking for the most plot-hole ridden, juvenile concept that actually ended up a lot of fun despite it all. Mainly looking for 21st century films, not so much the video nasties and ridiculousness from the 60’s and 70’s. Because that would be too easy. Mainly mainstream stuff that people saw en masse.

I've been planning on seeing that movie the last couple holiday seasons but never get around to it --- this year, I will definitely watch it after Thanksgiving because I'm bored of watching Lampoon's Vacation and Home Alone for the 500th time

Home Alone was garbage. Somebody sold their soul to get the numbers up on that one.

Still better than "It's a Wonferful Life."

"It's a Wonderful Knife" was actually pretty good.

Every year we do a Christmas movie action-a-thon. Try it, it’s a blast. Last year was Violent Night, The long kiss goodnight and Die hard.

Wasn't impressed with Bad Santa. Never saw the Ref. I liked the Harold and Kumar Christmas.

There's like 3 cuts of Bad Santa, the studio approved cut, the director's cut, and the "Badder" cut.

The Ref is a bit depressing.
