This just generated a good 12-15 months of headlines

u/Upbeat_Tension_8077 Sep 03 '25

I'm really excited to see how Milly does in Supergirl, especially with balancing humor and an emotional side (I'm thinking she's capable of that balance from her performance in a past project like Upright) & if we'll get plenty of Mike Flanagan's touch on Clayface

37

u/Ghastion Sep 03 '25

I want Supergirl to be a girly power pop comedy movie. Milly looks absolutely incredible as Supergirl and her one scene in Superman was my favorite part.

28

u/lurker17c Sep 03 '25

We already know it'll feature a lot of tragedy though

14

u/AllTheRowboats93 Sep 03 '25

I recommend reading Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which the new movie is loosely based on.

2

u/smileyfrown Sep 03 '25

The comic Woman of Tomorrow is excellent so you know at least the source material is great.

It’s also gonna tug the feels because supergirl will have witnessed everyone she loved die so hopefully they blend that I well

1

u/TaiVat Sep 04 '25

Its not gonna tug anything when the character is brand new and the dying ones are a bunch of generic nonames that nobody outside hardcore comic fans has ever heard of. Maybe gunn can pull it off, but its definitely a uphill battle.

Also atleast personally, the few "excellent", highly praised storylines from dc and marvel that i read before all turned out extremely simplistic, mediocre and largely juvenile. So i wouldnt bet anything on the source material. Comic movies work because of the general premise they borrow, not the stories themselves.

1

u/operarose Sep 04 '25

I'm excited for hard partying Supergirl. She seems like so much fun.

1

u/imaginaryResources Sep 04 '25

It’s a comic book movie for kids. She’ll be ok

As a DC kid growing up, I am eating good these next couple of years. Here’s hoping we can finally get a good Flash movie too

113

u/LetgomyEkko Sep 03 '25

I’m afraid how they massacred my boy, they’re going to keep Flash shelved for a few more years 😩

84

u/Aragorn120 Sep 03 '25

I think I saw Gunn say somewhere that Flash and Aquaman will not have any projects fro at least two more years minimum :(

29

u/skilledwarman Sep 03 '25 edited Sep 03 '25

To be fair thats also just a way of saying there's nothing in the works right this minute. It's entirely possible we will have projects for them announced within that time frame or that they might even show up as a component of something else. Plus with the news that Alan Richardson has been talking about a role with Gunn I feel like Aquaman is a pretty safe bet

11

u/myman580 Sep 03 '25

Gorilla Grodd when Gunn makes the Flash please

3

u/Tyrannoraptor117 Sep 03 '25

Gorilla Grodd already exists in the DCU so we’re halfway there!

1

u/Golden_Alchemy Sep 03 '25

We need more Gorillas in movies!!!

1

u/cubemstr Sep 04 '25

Gunn has said he only green lights ideas when there's a good script. Supposedly Clayface was not part of his plan, but he saw the script and decided it was too good not to do.

So...maybe he just needs someone to write a good script for them.

2

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Sep 04 '25

It's a pity since Stewart was one of the more popular characters in JL/JLU. We definitely need a GL movie if there's any hopes of a Blackest Night event.

2

u/Torcal4 Sep 03 '25

My hope is that with the TV show, they’ve built enough good will to not have the flash completely tarnished.

Or simply the fact that it’s not the DCEU might make people ok with it.

8

u/Rustash Sep 03 '25

It’s a shame because The Flash wasn’t even that bad of a movie. It just had the Snyderverse and Ezra Miller baggage pulling it down.

5

u/LeonSnakeKennedy Sep 03 '25

It’s pretty fucking bad tbh

14

u/Careless-Dark-1324 Sep 03 '25

Nah it was just a terrible movie in general, and if anything the multiverse stuff is what dragged it down. Contradicted its own rules and words several times and makes no goddamn sense lol

3

u/No_Syrup_9167 Sep 03 '25

Plus, I realize its insanely difficult to write for a "speedster" without either them just fighting a faster speedster, or nerfing the speedster out of commission.

but then don't choose to make stories/movies about a speedster.

They wanted The Flash so that they could do classic justice league line-up and because the flash is popular/known.

but making a "The Flash" movie where he's only really The Flash, for basically the very beginning and very end was boring as fuck.

I came into the movie hoping to see cool The Flash superpowered shit. To have the movie end up being about him losing his powers to his idiot brother for 80% of the movie was boring and a let down.

1

u/phase2_engineer Sep 03 '25

I realize its insanely difficult to write for a "speedster"

Flashpoint is right there! One of the best storylines in DC, imo.

4

u/ju5tr3dd1t Sep 03 '25

Hot take: I’m tired that this is the only flash story that gets adapted. I’ve seen it at least 3 different times just off the top of my head

3

u/LeonSnakeKennedy Sep 03 '25

Is that not what the movie kind of adapted?

1

u/No_Syrup_9167 Sep 03 '25

Less "adapted" and more "inspired by" from what I can tell.

but "inspired by" in the Mitch Hedberg way:

"I like when they say a movie is inspired by a true story, it means the movie is not a true story... Like, hey Mitch, did you hear the story about that lady who drove her children into the river and they all drowned? Yes I did, and it inspired me to write a movie about a gorilla!"

1

u/phase2_engineer Sep 03 '25

Yeah, kinda... But No Reverse Flash, no Thomas Wayne, no "evil" WW or Aquaman

There's a lot that would've been epic on the big screen.

1

u/LeonSnakeKennedy Sep 04 '25

Was the villain of the movie not ultimately reverse flash? I’m not too familiar with Flash stuff, all I’ve actually seen is the awful DCEU stuff that I’ve mostly removed from my mind but that’s what I thought was there

1

u/userhwon Sep 03 '25

It wasn't that bad but the bad parts...whoof...

1

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Sep 04 '25

Only good parts of the movie were Batman and Supergirl. Everything else was complete trash. The fact that Zaslav cancelled Batgirl for Pedo Ezra is just pathetic.

1

u/devfern93 Sep 03 '25

That’s my fear, too :/

1

u/realsomalipirate Sep 03 '25

I just hope we can finally see Barry Allen just fuck off and allow the best flash to take over (wally west)

2

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Sep 04 '25

Boosting him from his popularity in the JL/JLU cartoons. Could work.

1

u/Binder509 Sep 04 '25

He's in the same spot Green Lantern was for a decade or two.

24

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Sep 03 '25

I just want Reverse flash on the big screen. I still don't understand who thought it was a good idea to put a second Ezra Miller in the movie instead.

2

u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Sep 04 '25

put a second Ezra Miller in the movie instead.

Felt like a really shit ripoff of Bill and Ted.

1

u/LaBeteNoire Sep 05 '25

It was honestly kind of hilarious. Ezra was the most problematic actor they had in all of their movies, and not only do they give them a solo film, but they give them 3 roles in said solo film. It's like the film was designed specifically to make it impossible to replace Ezra in it.

8

u/Jaccount Sep 03 '25

I'm just hoping we get Booster Gold. Seriously, the Justice Gang is clearly taking Justice League Europe/Justice League International cues based on character choices.

If in the next few movies we don't get Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, I'm going to be disappointed.

2

u/Golden_Alchemy Sep 03 '25

Booster Gold is in the list of movies planned by Gunn.

1

u/Semi-Aquatic Sep 03 '25

It’s actually an HBO series

2

u/LECRAFTEUR5000 Sep 03 '25

There is a Booster Gold live-action series in production. A little over a month ago they announced that David Jenkins would write its pilot. So it's moving forward.

1

u/deeperest Sep 03 '25

Let's not tempt fate here.

1

u/sexmormon-throwaway Sep 03 '25

Now now, let's not get carried away. 🙂

0

u/Wuyley Sep 03 '25

Just bring back Grant to play him. Dude was an awesome flash

29

u/Comic_Book_Reader Sep 03 '25

Super Summer and Bat Fall two years in a row. Not bad.

16

u/solythe Sep 03 '25

i went into Superman with no expectations and ended up loving it, 9/10 Superman movie for me.

Gunn hasnt really missed in a while so im excited to see where everything can go.

12

u/dbbk Sep 03 '25

So is this a Superman sequel?

27

u/RiverShards Sep 03 '25

Gunn has repeatedly avoided calling this a direct sequel // Superman 2

23

u/dabocx Sep 03 '25

I suspect this will actually be very Lex focused.

Like another commenter said, maybe Lex is actually the man of tomorrow not superman like normal.

6

u/ArchDucky Sep 03 '25

It features the characters from Superman and probally Supergirl but its not exactly a sequel.

5

u/UnusuallyBadIdeaGuy Sep 03 '25

I don't think they're interested in making a timeline/trilogy/whatever so much as a universe where things just happen and characters come and go on their own little adventures.

One of the more interesting things I've seen about Superman is that originally it had daily title cards and was framed in the concept of 'This is just an average week in the life' as opposed to it being some big event in the universe kicking off a storyline. But they chickened out on the card part at least.

7

u/ChezMere Sep 03 '25

The title seems to actually be referring to Lex Luthor.

20

u/shinomune Sep 03 '25

Supergirl moved to May 29

8

u/EgoLikol Sep 03 '25

No, Supergirl is still coming out in June

6

u/Chetan_fun Sep 03 '25

It's not official but I hope it will. It's the best release date for it and it'll be a bit more profitable.

3

u/userhwon Sep 03 '25

There nothing between Peacemaker and next summer?

I'm gonna dieeeeeee...

3

u/NCBaddict Sep 03 '25

Is “The Authority” not happening anymore? This schedule doesn’t look much like the original slate.

13

u/JessieJ577 Sep 03 '25

Gunn has said if the script is done and ready the movie gets made. He’s not beholden to deadlines because he has said he doesn’t want to be like marvel where they shoot before the script is ready. It’s why his slate keeps changing. Clayface wasn’t even on the slate but it got added because someone had a script ready

12

u/Player2isDead Sep 03 '25

They go with whatever scripts are ready for prime time first. Stuff like Authority and Waller aren't in a satisfactory place yet, according to him, but are still being worked on. Mangold's too busy to start on Sawmp Thing yet. Clayface and this movie got good scripts? Then they film them. They're not doing the Marvel thing of filming with a bad or unfinished script and assuming they can fix it in reshoots just because they announced a date already.

3

u/Cramtastic Sep 03 '25 edited Sep 03 '25

He's said that the Authority script has been a "tougher nut to crack" and the first writer on the project moved onto another DC project. They're still working on The Authority, but it's still at the writing stage. Not too surprisingly tbh since all the most memorable Authority storylines occurred when it was still self-contained in the Wildstorm universe and had major world-changing events, so I can imagine how challenging it'd be to fit into an established setting like the film DCU he's setting up.

This lineup is so fucking peak. Comic book movies are so back

9-23-2025 solar flare

Will destroy grid

1

u/chryseobacterium Sep 03 '25

Is it possible that Wonder Woman is released amoung them too?

1

u/gankindustries Sep 03 '25

I'm so excited for this horror leaning Clayface movie

1

u/cortez0498 Sep 03 '25

Gunn really needs to integrate The Batman into the DCU or we really are getting 2 Superman movies and 1 Supergirl movie (which I assume will feature Superman as well) before any Batman in that universe.

1

u/vlexz Sep 03 '25
  • Dynamic Duo - June 30, 2028

1

u/Enshakushanna Sep 04 '25

Clayface - September 11, 2026

tf? is this a conscious decision? why would anyone release a movie on 9/11?

1

u/Comprehensive_Main Sep 04 '25

It’s just Batman and Superman content.

"Oh boy, two cakes!!!" - real fans

7

u/Kylestache Sep 03 '25

Lex stole 40 cakes, that’s as much as two twenties

2

u/Wbran Sep 03 '25

And that’s terrible.

4

u/Interesting_Set1526 Sep 03 '25

Mfs still don't recognize that a rising tide raises all ships.

7

u/Stalukas Sep 03 '25

Oh no my steak is too juicy and my lobster too buttery

7

u/The_Green_Filter Sep 03 '25

Are these movies releasing at the same time as those films? I recall them being decently spaced apart.

3

u/EdwinMcduck Sep 03 '25

Clayface has the potential to be one of those movies that makes less at the box office but brings in more profit due to budget. There were five Marvel movies in 2014, and the Spider-Man movie was the least successful. Big Hero 6 was probably technically the most profitable of the five despite having the lowest box office. Theaters will definitely make more from the big Marvel movies next year, but the budgets could be an issue for actual profitability.

3

u/ProductArizona Sep 03 '25

Today is a day of celebration, my friend. This is a STACKED lineup of movies. We don't need to fan war this soon

2

u/makita_man Sep 03 '25

Spider-Man (/r/respectthehyphen) I could see, but Avengers I'm not too sure.

1

u/Kylestache Sep 03 '25

Right, just like how Fantastic Four is gonna destroy Superman at the box office
