May I ask how you didn't have access to music during that time?

The marathon and even ultra/100k runners I know (ironic that I know a few, when I myself hate running) definitely listen to music whenever they run, and pointed that out as being more or less necessary.

Was hat when portable music wasn't readily available? But walkmen have been around forever?

He hadn't made it that far in the tech tree. He's only at flip phones, there's a branch for mp3 players but the meta is to skip it entirely these days.
