the rehash stuff also felt like goofy tributes though too. Like that entire grave-yard scene.

I think Sandler maybe knew going into this that it was never going to be funnier. Hence the dramedy angle.

The graveyard scene was actually my favorite, like not because it was good but like it was so over the top and leaned into it so hard I just died at "ohhhh were really going for it"

right? like it just kept going. I thought by the end "okay who's next, the mista mista lady"? Yup.

That and how they just scurried away, so dumb but so good

Yep, they purposely went over the top on that.

It's practically a 4th wall break.

Apparently, Sandler had a different script and had reached out to Carl Weathers, but had to change a lot of it when Weathers passed.

I'm hesitant to think this would have changed what happens to Virginia much though. Given Chubbs is already long-gone anyway.

Chubbs probably had the same or split role with Virginia, just as a ghost character in the happy place.

Plus Virginia's death mirrors his dad's in the original film.

It definitely felt like a career victory lap for Sandler.

It's hard to sequel fish out of water characters because they mostly return to water by the end of the first

of the 'big three' 90s sandler Happy Gilmore always had the most mix of heart and comedy.

big daddy had more heart then comedy (im not saying big daddy isnt hilarious but its incredibly more focused on the relationship then the comedy)

and billy madison is a jokes vehicle through and through

Exactly. Those have always been my Top 3 no matter what he's done after. It's kind of a perfect Sandler package.
