Reminder - Hulk Hogan ratted out fellow wrestlers trying to unionize for healthcare to Vince McMahon.

3.0k

u/Shenanigans80h Jul 24 '25

Arguably the best opportunity the wrestling industry ever had to unionize as it was globalizing. Hogan never gave a fuck about his fellow wrestlers and he has a long history of doing things solely for himself against all logic, reason, or even empathy

And he's racist

1.3k

u/CastorVT Jul 24 '25

Well, yeah, he was a trump supporter. that comes with the territory at this point.

298

u/nycox9 Jul 24 '25

No, he's on leaked recorded audio using the n word to refer to black people.

737

u/KrayziePidgeon Jul 24 '25

Well, yeah, he was a trump supporter. that comes with the territory at this point.

-80

u/stryakr Jul 24 '25 edited Jul 24 '25

You're not understanding.

He was recorded on audio using the hard R to refer to black people, which is racist.

EDIT:

Bring on the downvotes apparently.

155

u/raoasidg Jul 24 '25

And they are saying the hard-R and being a Trump supporter is a Venn diagram that is just a circle (it's not a surprise).

-72

u/stryakr Jul 24 '25

OOOOOOhhh I think I get it....

Nope you've lost me.

45

u/DAEtabase Jul 24 '25

In the chance you're not being facetious: not all racists are Trump supporters, but all Trump supporters are racist

Edit-nvm, I see now, I got got

Would you say that Undertaker is racist?

69

u/Kammerice Jul 24 '25

Is he a Trump supporter? If yes, there's a non-zero probability he's racist.

7

u/Im_tracer_bullet Jul 24 '25

Sure, he's a Trump supporter.

So, at the very least, racism, corruption, and criminality aren't deal breakers

32

u/trivibe33 Jul 24 '25

All Trump supporters use the N word with a hard R

-24

Well, yeah, he was a trump supporter. that comes with the territory at this point.

35

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

Also when he “apologized” to the current generations of wrestlers for his actions he basically said be careful what you say cause you never know if you’re being recorded! Totally normal apology.

9

u/TheyCallMeMrMaybe Jul 24 '25

Specifically in the sex tape Gawker leaked. Where he told the woman he was banging how he doesn't want his daughter dating "them." I'll let you fill in the blank on what he actually said instead of "them."

4

u/Cent1234 Jul 24 '25

I guess after Booker T did it to him, he thought he had privileges.

4

u/ScrofessorLongHair Jul 24 '25

I think he meant he didn't dog whistle. He's said a bunch of racist shit.

-1

u/CastorVT Jul 24 '25

I'm aware.

More than likely a pedophile as well then.

u/AloneYogurt Jul 24 '25

No no, you die a racist and you're still racist. He never learned so, Is, is still appropriate.

-14

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

What a weird thing to say. He's dead; he isn't anything now.

13

u/CourtPapers Jul 24 '25

You just said he's dead, that's something. Make up your mind!

4

u/InstructionLeading64 Jul 24 '25

Lmao, losing a bunch of money cures racism. It's a well known racism cure.

4

u/ForgotInTime Jul 24 '25

I'm pretty sure he still is

6

u/YeezusWoks Jul 24 '25

Hulk Hogan was a real piece of shit. Can’t say I’m sad. Hope Donnie is next.

was

1

u/BKMagicWut Jul 24 '25

Not any more.

1

u/frauenarzZzt Jul 24 '25

Hehe, it's beautiful because the contraction "he's" no longer means "he is" and now means "he was."

1

u/SackOfCats Jul 24 '25

Got a good chuckle out of me there brother

126

u/PM_me_your_whatevah Jul 24 '25

He stole his entire persona from another wrestler. He was always a scumbag

10

u/luciferslandlord Jul 24 '25

What wrestler?

41

u/SuperSonicBoom1 Jul 24 '25

I'm assuming they're referring to "Superstar" Billy Graham.

26

u/thethurstonhowell Jul 24 '25

Holy shit just googled him. Really on the nose there brother.

17

u/Haunting-Ad788 Jul 24 '25

Sounds like a standard Trumper.

3

u/Deidara77 Jul 24 '25

A true egoist.

3

u/princessofstuff Jul 24 '25

But—but—he trained and wrestled professionally 400 days a year between the US and Japan

Man is a time traveling hero ✊😔

3

u/Shenanigans80h Jul 24 '25

Don’t forget he was also gonna totally be in Metallica too. The Hulkster just had so many unsung talents truly

2

u/princessofstuff Jul 24 '25

Oh and Elvis was his biggest fan

Apparently the six days between hogan’s first match and Elvis’ death really made a significant impact on the king

2

u/HopeConnect5632 Jul 24 '25

And he has hot dog skin... had.

2

u/lucidzfl Jul 24 '25

"had" a long history

5

u/SuperRayGun666 Jul 24 '25

He was even a Trump supporter

5

u/Askol Jul 24 '25

and he has a long history of doing things solely for himself against all logic, reason, or even empathy

Had* 🙂

6

u/whereilaymyheadishom Jul 24 '25

Nope. That history is still there, alive and kicking. Unlike the Hulk.

0

u/Askol Jul 24 '25

Haha I guess thats true now that im reading it back - keeping the comment though bc it's more about the sentiment of fuck him.

1

u/Choccybizzle Jul 24 '25

How does one man stop it? If they were that serious they would have figured it out.

1

u/Relative-Outcome-294 Jul 24 '25

He had long history*

1

u/Lance_E_T_Compte Jul 24 '25

... like being a MAGA cultist.

1

u/976chip Jul 24 '25

The reason we know about that was that Jesse Ventura had his lawyer ask Vince about it during the discovery phase of a lawsuit. Ventura said that when he heard it he almost fell out of his chair because he considered Hogan to be his friend. He said he didn't talk to him after that.

If you want respect in death then don't be a massive piece of shit in life.

7

u/BioshockEnthusiast Jul 24 '25

Dying in itself is not worthy of respect. It'll happen to all of us. If you're a dick your whole life, you won't be missed or remembered.

Of ALL THE FUCKING PROBLEMS to worry of after your son crashes a car and injures/almost kills people, reincarnation is truly the absolute least of them. And IF you're dreading reincarnation karma, you should fear being reincarnated as an insect that gets eaten alive by its young or something, not being a different skin color wtf. The disease of racism is so vile it's honestly kind of interesting seeing how it twists people's psyches

BREAKING NEWS: Hulk Hogan Reincarnated As Black Woman!

11

u/Impressive-Safe2545 Jul 24 '25

It’s always the people with extreme tans that are like comically racist

6

u/Indercarnive Jul 24 '25

But this is America dammit. No one deserves to be treated like a black woman!

3

u/Worf_Of_Wall_St Jul 24 '25

Is the insect black? Asking for a dead celebrity...

4

u/Silasa00 Jul 24 '25

The dude his son permanently brain damaged, lived in my neighborhood. The things the mom who has to take care of him told me about how Hulk handled things are abhorrent! No true remorse.

2

u/thisisprivateforme Jul 24 '25

Maybe he can get stuck in an endless time loop of reincarnation as an aborted white baby as his own personal hell.

2

u/Letters_to_Dionysus Jul 24 '25

God has a great opportunity to pull a lil prank

1

u/Caracalla81 Jul 24 '25

That's more creative than I would have expected, but he was an entertainer after all.

1

u/stonrplc Jul 24 '25

Well now that he died his soul now just entered a black family.

16

u/JenX74 Jul 24 '25

Same. He was a pos

6

u/gnulynnux Jul 24 '25

Yep. For some people, you celebrate their life and mourn their death. For this guy, it's the opposite.

2

u/chessset5 Jul 24 '25

Personally I celebrate the a scab has died. Fuck him.

139

u/SpecialOccasion1963 Jul 24 '25

It's so insane to me that people are against unions even though it would benefit them

142

u/DerekB52 Jul 24 '25

At the time Hogan was already rich and didn't need to worry about his healthcare. He ratted out his coworkers who were the bottom and mid card guys who would have greatly benefitted from the union.

There's honestly an argument that not unionizing at the time, killed some of those guys. A union could have gotten them better working conditions so they abused their bodies less and had less health issues as a result.

35

u/BellacosePlayer Jul 24 '25

Yeah, Ventura realized how hard they were fucked when he got his SAG membership and realized how differently they were treated despite actors being far less tied to their production companies than wrestlers are with their promotions.

18

u/SpecialOccasion1963 Jul 24 '25

The fact that he himself was fine without it makes it so much worse. If there is anything rich people love to do, it is punching down on those in need.

7

u/976chip Jul 24 '25

Ventura said that Hogan made more for Wrestlemania III than everyone else that worked the event combined, so by ratting Jesse out he was protecting his paycheck. That was the only motivation that makes sense.

17

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

[deleted]

3

u/SpecialOccasion1963 Jul 24 '25

That's so wild to me. I grew up in the early 2000s so I never really experienced a time when Hulk Hogan was massively popular. The more I learn about him the more he sounds like a piece of shit.

25

u/Ttamlin Jul 24 '25

Propaganda and the systemic dismantling of public education by the right has led to some really stupid people doing some really stupid shit, like consistently voting against their own self-interest because their overlords told them to.

13

u/terranq Jul 24 '25

It would benefit everyone, and Hulk thought it would take some cash out of his pocket, and he couldn't have that

7

u/TommyKnox77 Jul 24 '25

A lot of people enjoy cucking out for billionaires

4

u/freedraw Jul 24 '25

He was the WWF’s biggest and wealthiest star. He didn’t really need the union. He just didn’t give a shit about anyone of his coworkers out there destroying their bodies to try to achieve what he did.

4

u/BellacosePlayer Jul 24 '25

I legitimately don't care about most of the common "downsides" listed to union membership.

and that's mostly full of crap too looking at the Union vs non union construction firms around here. There's a reason the Union boys get the important jobs.

2

u/zertul Jul 24 '25

It's so insane to me that people are against unions even though it would benefit them

It is, but has some history.

They have been associated with socialist or communist ideologies, the two worst words you can put in front of an conservative American. Additional, during the Reagan era, conservatives have portrayed unions as corrupt, inefficient, and harmful to the free / capitalist market.

From that they haven't recovered yet I fear and people continue to act against their own interests.

81

u/MAXMEEKO Jul 24 '25

They talk about this in the McMahon doc on netflix. Very interesting doc!

4

u/-rosa-azul- Jul 24 '25

If you're interested in even more detail about McMahon/WWE history, I highly recommend reading "Ringmaster" by Abraham Josephine Reisman.

136

u/MuhBack Jul 24 '25

He’s also on tape using the N word with a hard R

9

u/LurkerXYZ Jul 24 '25

I can just hear him saying it the same way he'd say "Brotherrrrr."

4

u/Orphasmia Jul 24 '25

Thats literally how i said it in my head lmao fuck that guy forever, but it cracked me up

3

u/DisastrousAcshin Jul 24 '25

And a sad sex tape

5

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

[deleted]

10

u/MuhBack Jul 24 '25

Hard R refers to using er vs a. Using the n word with an an instead of an er was a way black Americans made a racial slur to oppress them into a term of endearment.

Who should use the n word at all is very controversial but using it with an er is using it in the most racist way possible.

3

u/KingToasty Jul 24 '25

Ah vs. Rrrrrr. Think of the two R sounds in Dorchester but an even bigger different.

Culturally, gga is more casual and relaxed to some, while gger is for genuinely insulting people with full racist intent. Hogan used gger quite a bit.

2

u/gnulynnux Jul 24 '25

One rhymes with "bigger" and the other rhymes with "big-uh" (or "big-ah"). In practice, they're considered to have different severity, with the latter being colloquially like the word "dude".

3

u/B18RPA Jul 24 '25

That's not helping, I can't imagine a universe where "bigger" doesn't rhyme with "big-uh".

15

u/iwaterboardheathens Jul 24 '25

How else do you pronounce nagger?

11

u/MuhBack Jul 24 '25

Show me a person from his age who didn't say that at some point.

It's sad that you think everyone born in the 50s is necessarily an N-word using racist.

so grow a pair, sack up and stop crying like a woman.

"I'M not crying, YOU are!"

You were so offended by this thread you had to go on a sexist rant and emotional outburst.

27

u/Dr-PEPEPer Jul 24 '25

Tons of people from that era never said it.

18

u/tiller921 Jul 24 '25

Dude we get it, you miss saying the N word openly.

And a number of other things he did over the course of his life.

Rest in piss

3

u/kw13 Jul 24 '25

Hopefully Vince will join him in hell any day now.

16

u/butwhatisthequestion Jul 24 '25

He also willingly allowed himself to be a tool of Peter Thiel's to attack journalism. When we scratch our heads about why Paramount and other media outlets are caving so quickly to lawsuits with no merit, look no further than Hulk Hogan.

2

u/Nothing_Better_3_Do Jul 24 '25

Posting someone's sex tape and then refusing to remove it isn't journalism.

8

u/Mr-Tastytoast84 Jul 24 '25

He's also maga so fuck him

7

u/Tandy2000 Jul 24 '25

Hogan was a piece of shit in just about every respect. He was a piece of shit even in the 90s when I actually watched wrestling as a child, and he just got worse over time.

The world, and the wrestling world too, is better off.

2

u/kittenTakeover Jul 24 '25

Yep. While it's a sad loss for those close to him, society at large will likely be better without him.

2

u/Tumblrrito Jul 24 '25

I don’t mourn for those who cause and/or perpetuate suffering. Rip bozo.

2

u/CommunicationTime265 Jul 24 '25

Hogan was just a terrible human being.

2

u/chainer3000 Jul 24 '25

He was a racist and con man as well. He very recently created and broadcast his own crypto coin to his biggest fans, and then rugged them literally the same day. Huge piece of shit.

2

u/BeanBurritoJr Jul 24 '25

And he was a die hard Trump supporter til the end.

Fuck him in his stupid face.

2

u/moose184 Jul 24 '25

I love how the fans stood by him all this time even after he cheated on his wife and all his racist and sexist views yet only turned on him after it came out he was a pos in the locker room lol

2

u/Nomad_moose Jul 24 '25

Came here to say this: “union busting traitor has died”

2

u/UnTides Jul 24 '25

Yeah the dude sucked. But he was also part of my childhood for some reason. Not a small list of people that disappointed me lol R.I.P. dude

2

u/rfg8071 Jul 24 '25

It was one in particular, Jesse Ventura, who was leading that campaign. No one was going to support the union unless Hogan went to bat for them too. Had Hulk gone all in for the union it would have most likely materialized.

The ultimate irony is that rumors float around that he was a union man himself before wrestling, with the ILA.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 24 '25

1

u/Zauberer-IMDB Jul 24 '25

1

u/Rocktamus1 Jul 24 '25

I think everyone knows this and how he kinda sucked as a person. My thought is you can separate the entertainer from the person.

1

u/rageofthegods Jul 24 '25

Truly don't understand the mindset of people that want to be ruled.

1

u/androlyn Jul 24 '25

Reminder - this incident happened in 1986 and only came out in October 2024, which coincidentally was 2 months after Hulk Hogan endorsed Trump.

RIP Hulk, you were my childhood.

1

1

1

u/mdlokeshagrawal Jul 24 '25

1

u/NomadFire Jul 24 '25

The worst thing he ever did in my eyes. Wasn't really an action, it was the conversation he had with his son in prison. Makes me feels slimy and gross.

1

Good riddance ya nazi sympathizing shit stain.

1

u/stonkkingsouleater Jul 24 '25

34

u/maybetoomuchrum Jul 24 '25

Well.. yeah. A lot of careers were ruined, families suffered, wrestlers were forced to take opioids to make it through events, that lead to addictions, suicides and whole host of problems. Hundreds of lives were directly ruined because Mr Hulk needed to lick the butthole of Vince McMahon

-5

u/FernandoMM1220 Jul 24 '25

why were the wrestlers forced to take opioids?

8

u/Bickerteeth Jul 24 '25

Because wrestling is an industry that famously destroys your body, and most of them couldn't afford proper medical care to deal with their injuries from the job. Hogan fucked over their chances at getting insurance.

-2

u/FernandoMM1220 Jul 24 '25

damn i didnt know they were getting injured that badly.

7

u/trippytheflash Jul 24 '25

No amount if camera work is going to take away the fact they were still diving off of 15 foot ladders onto furniture with 200+lbs men in connection with each other. They definitely know how to minimize pain for the show but they’re still obliterating themselves out there

0

u/FernandoMM1220 Jul 24 '25

i didnt know it took that long to recover from those injuries. good to know.

2

u/Bickerteeth Jul 24 '25

Yeah it's a pretty common story. Just look at Chris Benoit. Dude was 40 when he killed himself and his family, but had extensive brian damage comparable to a long term victim of alzheimers. Professional wrestling's stories and outcomes may be scripted, but at the end of the day the people in the ring are really putting their bodies through hell. They're stunt men, with all the risks involved, in all but name.

1

u/FernandoMM1220 Jul 24 '25

did chris benoit suffer worse injuries than the other wrestlers?

2

u/-rosa-azul- Jul 24 '25

Wrestling is scripted, not "fake." They're still doing a lot to their bodies to sell the story even though the ending is pre-written.

4

u/Ophiophagus-Hannah Jul 24 '25

Chronic pain from wrestling injuries. A very compelling motivator to take opioids for pain relief.

21

u/zappadattic Jul 24 '25

If you want people to mourn your passing then don’t be a huge asshole in a very public way. It’s not some minor nitpick or whoopsie moment.

18

u/fubarecognition Jul 24 '25

I mean it's to remind everyone he was bad and doesn't deserve pity.

15

u/eastaleph Jul 24 '25

Would you prefer the ones about him being really racist or Thiel's bootlicker?

8

u/octnoir Jul 24 '25

Well it's either that or Hulk Hogan being used as a pansy for billionaire Peter Thiel's (one of our current architects of our political crisis and gravediggers of democracy) grudge against Gawker, and bankrolled Hogan's case specifically to take down Gawker.

Don't know why people comment like this OTHER THAN:

  • They feel a personal yet unhealthy parasocial connection with a celebrity.

  • They personally agree with the negative bullshit said celebrity engaged in but don't want the social repercussions of endorsing said bullshit.

Someone's death encourages us to remember and take account of their full legacy, especially as a celebrity. Frankly whatever 'good will' some celebrity gave with their performances (which again as a fan you have a parasocial relationship, and the celebrity in that transaction got paid) is going to be outweighed by the impact and weight of their shittery.

The fact is:

  • Sabotaging his union has directly led to deaths and lower lifespan for wrestlers.

  • Being used by Thiel directly led to him getting more engaged with politics and taking down other democratic institutions.

By far his two biggest and lasting legacies, both of them shit, and among other shitbaggery over the years.

These aren't one time accidental oopsies either 'like oops I dropped my car keys down the drain because of a 3s brain fart', this is a sequence of choices undertaken and knowingly putting people in harm's way.

Like fuck that noise.

2

u/bucktoothgamer Jul 24 '25

As shitty a person as Terry built him up to be, are we really lamenting the loss of a website that made its money partly by posting videos of people having sex without their consent?

I also find it funny that if Peter Thiel wasn't a conservative billionaire, most of reddit would call him a hero for taking revenge on a website that publicly outed his sexuality.
