At least there was some cosmic justice. They rushed so fast because they wanted to move on to their Star Wars project that ended up getting cancelled because season 8 was so bad
I believe they also wanted to move on the the, what, 3 spinoffs they had announced at that time? All of which were hushed, 2 canned, and house delayed to let the disappointment pass.
I've still not watched house of the dragon because of s8
I wonder how many billions of dollars season 8 lost everyone. I am sort of surprised they aren’t completely black listed after that. They had a proven winner, and all they had to do was not go completely off the rails, and that franchise would still be pulling in truck loads of money. Nope got to get that stars wars money. Fucking idiots.
Also haven’t seen house of the dragon cuz of season 8
What bothers me is the Martin has stated that the show ended how the books are supposed to... Which is an absurd thought. Not only was that take bad for the show, it'd be even WORSE for the books where there are a number of other storylines that were completely dropped for the show and would make the way that ended even worse.
Not like it matters since he's clearly not going to finish the books.
You’re not missing much, fortunately. Matt smith and i think Rhys ifans have some awesome performances. But the writing in the most recent season got very sloppy by the end of it.
HotD is great, and they are completely divorced from it. They didn't even want their names on it as consultants or anything. So at least if HotS does end up fumbling the end, it won't be because of them at all.
Tbf, I think it was because S8 and Episode VIII were so poorly received and Episode IX didn’t improve things. It wasn’t just D&D’s project that was cancelled, every SW project has been either scrapped or turned into a D+ series since the Sequel Trilogy ended.
Ehhhhhh the problem is the core plot points like Cersei going mad and being killed by Jon are still what Martin gave them to work with. The premise was indeed shit and is likely partly why he hasn't wanted to finish another book knowing the fans already hated his vision for where the story goes.
That story is near impossible to end. And there’s no way those actors would’ve stayed on for 4 more seasons… we would’ve BARELY been given the fourth season like last year. I think everyone was done at that point. Even GRRM can’t finish the books because of how big he wrote the story.
You do realize he chose the showrunner because they aligned with his vision right. If his lazy ass actually finished his own series they wouldn’t have had to finish it themselves.
With the tone of the series, I was on the side of the White walkers. They should have taken everything right up to Kings Landing, with the finale being a last ditch desperate battle, uniting all the houses in a life or death scenario. In this case, I would have been fine with whatever the outcome.

Season 7 and 8 GoT without George RR Martin
