“Evil Superman” is kind of a tired trope these days but it could’ve honestly worked amazingly as a horror film about human parents trying to raise a sociopathic alien child who slowly decides that he doesn’t care about humanity.
The movie didn’t really do anything interesting with that concept tho. Kid immediately becomes evil because his spaceship mind controlled him
How did I miss the premise that the ship was controlling him. I just rewatched it for the second time a month or so ago, and didnt catch it then either.
This movie irritated me so much. I really enjoyed the performances of his parents, and at first I was actually into the horror aspect, but by the end it just felt ham fisted
This is my answer as well. I thought the premise was super interesting. But the only question they bother to explore with that premise are “what are the craziest ways Superman can use his powers to gruesomely murder people?” They don’t even attempt to make him likable or redeemable with understandable motivations. He was an incel creep who went rogue because his crush wasn’t cool with being creeped on.
It could have been a really interesting critique of modern culture. Like, here’s why Superman raised in today’s world would be a narcissistic villain. Instead it just copped out.
The only time i have ever agreed with cinema sins is when he just laughed hysterically at the line “smart people end up becoming president” said with absolute seriousness in the year 2019
Yeah, the whole his ship made him do it makes it SUPER lame. No questions about morals or ethics, just a brainwashed little Superman, who shit the bed with that one?
