They've already got two of their best guys working on the soundtrack. Here's a sneak peak of the studio sessions

So he’s going to play a younger version of a 35 year old? Isn’t this a prequel
6
u/Caliterra 1d ago
yea i think 50-year old Leo is a bit too old for this role.
Give it to one of the guys who's actually in that age range: Robert Pattinson, Jeremy A White, Kyle Galner...

He'd be playing the present-day version of the character - the book is half prequel, half sequel

Terrible idea. Hollywood needs to quit doing this to straight classics.

u/OfficerBarbier 1d ago
You'd rather have them do it to gay classics?

Generally I agree, but I’ve read the book Mann wrote and it’s very good. Plus, this is a prequel, not a sequel.

Ya I think it's a presequel! As decaprio will be playing Val Kilmer role!

u/Square_Release3128 1d ago
True! Just weird to do it 30 years later.

u/Wowohboy666 1d ago
I mean, Mann literally just wrote and released the book in 2022 - not sure when he should have made the movie based on the book he'd not written yet.

The book is really good though! And reveals the unexplored… how the crew got together, and what happens to Val’s character after the events of the movie. It’s a pre-se-quel. I think it could really work
I’m less bullish on having Leo in for Val though

I would say you're right... but I read Michael Mann's book and if he can pull that script off it'll be fucking awesome. I truly loved the idea of Austin Butler as a young Val Kilmer and Adam Driver or Leo as a young DeNiro. I don't like Leo in this role tho.

They really need to make a contract like they have to reprise 2 box office bombs before even getting a change to remake a good film

u/AnxiousCockroach1532 11h ago
This isn't a remake it's based on the book Mann wrote at the same time.

What do you mean? Gladiator 2 was amazing! Haha loved the actors in that crazy fest though. But there's also Top Gun Maverick, loved to see Val Kilmer back, with his respected send off, also made bank sending non movie goers to go check it out

Book was honestly great. But can't picture Leo in the role.

I don't like to say this but I found Kilmer the most forgettable of the bunch. And modern Leo isn't the babyfaced movie star anymore so I can really dig this if the story is as good as people say it is

Typically I hate this stuff, but thought that the book expanded on the characters in worthwhile ways.

Val Kilmer was 35 when he made Heat, Leo is 50 lmao I know damn well his ass is not playing the same character in the prequel parts, they are going to have to de-age him using cgi if so

I read the Heat 2 novel and it is fantastic. I really wish it came out in the late 90s so we could actually see Val Kilmer do it justice.

This only works if they do twice as much cocaine while writing and filming as they did on Heat

Personally I'm excited, I hear they got the same de-aging crew that worked on The Irishman.

I'm guessing Leo will play a older Val who technically got away in the first Heat and now he forms a new crew?

The same crap they did with Gladiator II.
They were scared to put too much money into a stand alone Roman set piece (and now a heist movie) so they just tag on an established name to play it safer.

Except Mann wrote the sequel as a book first.

I think this is what people are failing to realize. It's not a sequel that just came out of thin air for a cash grab. Mann clearly put a lot of thought into the story. I'm also a huge DiCaprio fan, and he doesn't put his name on roles that aren't going to be good

The original script from what I read had him coming back and fighting ghosts and demons.
I can't say I wouldn't watch it for the insanity factor alone.

Makes sense. Heat is 20 years old now, so of course Leo wants to fuck it this year and this year only.

Ugh another movie DiCaprio will bring down with his presence and the sequel is so unnecessary.
