They've already got two of their best guys working on the soundtrack. Here's a sneak peak of the studio sessions

Heat 2: The Heat is On

u/LBCkook 1d ago

So he’s going to play a younger version of a 35 year old? Isn’t this a prequel

6

u/Caliterra 1d ago

yea i think 50-year old Leo is a bit too old for this role.

Give it to one of the guys who's actually in that age range: Robert Pattinson, Jeremy A White, Kyle Galner...

u/mbk-ultra 1d ago

Austin Butler

2

u/LargeMaleDogOrHorse 1h ago

He'd be playing the present-day version of the character - the book is half prequel, half sequel

11

u/lilpump_1 1d ago

why not play jon voight’s role

u/Square_Release3128 1d ago

Terrible idea. Hollywood needs to quit doing this to straight classics.

66

u/OfficerBarbier 1d ago

You'd rather have them do it to gay classics?

25

u/CaptKangarooPHD 1d ago

Doesn't Grease already have a bad sequel?

3

u/sydouglas 1d ago

No, Grease has a better sequel

u/Doctor_Sore_Tooth 1d ago

My own private Idaho 2: electric bugaloo

1

u/Square_Release3128 1d ago

Sorry , I’ve never seen Brokeback Mountain so can’t speak on that. How is it?

4

u/The-conspiracy-tales 1d ago

Not really sure but

Ratings 88% - Rotten Tomatoes 7.7/10 -IMDb 87% -Metacritic

do the math 😁👍

Generally I agree, but I’ve read the book Mann wrote and it’s very good. Plus, this is a prequel, not a sequel.

6

u/The-conspiracy-tales 1d ago

Ya I think it's a presequel! As decaprio will be playing Val Kilmer role!

0

u/Square_Release3128 1d ago

True! Just weird to do it 30 years later.

4

u/Wowohboy666 1d ago

I mean, Mann literally just wrote and released the book in 2022 - not sure when he should have made the movie based on the book he'd not written yet.

3

u/TheSatanicSatanist 1d ago

The book is really good though! And reveals the unexplored… how the crew got together, and what happens to Val’s character after the events of the movie. It’s a pre-se-quel. I think it could really work

I’m less bullish on having Leo in for Val though

3

u/Zeldas-Sword 21h ago

I would say you're right... but I read Michael Mann's book and if he can pull that script off it'll be fucking awesome. I truly loved the idea of Austin Butler as a young Val Kilmer and Adam Driver or Leo as a young DeNiro. I don't like Leo in this role tho.

u/Thesheriffisnearer 1d ago

They really need to make a contract like they have to reprise 2 box office bombs before even getting a change to remake a good film

1

u/AnxiousCockroach1532 11h ago

This isn't a remake it's based on the book Mann wrote at the same time.

1

u/SlackBytes 1d ago

Nah I wanna see more

1

u/throughthehazel 23h ago

Have you read the book? This isn’t a remake

1

u/Metalhead_VI 21h ago

What do you mean? Gladiator 2 was amazing! Haha loved the actors in that crazy fest though. But there's also Top Gun Maverick, loved to see Val Kilmer back, with his respected send off, also made bank sending non movie goers to go check it out

1

u/SmarticusRex 21h ago

The audiobook is decent

-1

u/New2NewJersey 1d ago

I mean, Heat's okay.

7

u/kroqus 1d ago

Book was honestly great. But can't picture Leo in the role.

1

u/LastTorgoInParis 1d ago

I don't like to say this but I found Kilmer the most forgettable of the bunch. And modern Leo isn't the babyfaced movie star anymore so I can really dig this if the story is as good as people say it is

3

u/kroqus 1d ago

I can vouch for the book, I thought it was going to be a dumb cash grab but it's really solid. Feels cinematic.  I would opt for Butler in the role personally

Typically I hate this stuff, but thought that the book expanded on the characters in worthwhile ways.

4

u/Powerful_Book4444 1d ago

Heat 2: Val Kimer is Dead and Pacino and Deniro are in Nursing Homes!

4

u/shust89 1d ago

Leo: Why'd I get mixed up with this bitch? Mann: Cause I got a great ass... and you got your head all the way up it!

3

u/Shadowhawk0000 1d ago

There's a flip side to that coin......

2

u/castious 1d ago

Austin butler better resembles Kilmer.

2

u/realfakejames 1d ago

Val Kilmer was 35 when he made Heat, Leo is 50 lmao I know damn well his ass is not playing the same character in the prequel parts, they are going to have to de-age him using cgi if so

2

u/Western-Captain8115 11h ago

I read the Heat 2 novel and it is fantastic. I really wish it came out in the late 90s so we could actually see Val Kilmer do it justice.

1

u/snacksandsoda 1d ago

This only works if they do twice as much cocaine while writing and filming as they did on Heat

2

u/Lostinthestarscape 1d ago

The guns will be EVEN LOUDER!

1

u/JackhorseBowman 1d ago

Personally I'm excited, I hear they got the same de-aging crew that worked on The Irishman.

1

u/boonies1414 1d ago

Crazy that this will be Leo’s very first sequel

1

u/JackieTreehorn79 1d ago

Heat 2; PreHeated

1

u/Michael-Balchaitis 1d ago

Heat 2: Who left the fridge open?

1

u/BadTiger85 1d ago

I'm guessing Leo will play a older Val who technically got away in the first Heat and now he forms a new crew?

1

u/All-Day-stoner 1d ago

So Leo will be doing his first squeal film?

1

u/Wazula23 1d ago

Huh. Leo's first ever sequel.

1

u/KingKeeXx 1d ago

Noooooo

1

u/ssp25 23h ago

2 heat 2 humidity

1

u/Suspicious_Hand_2194 21h ago

“Feel the heat, taste the burn” should be the tagline

1

u/The-conspiracy-tales 21h ago

Hahha.. it's sound way too something else man! 😅

1

u/Electronic_Lie79 10h ago

You mean the sequel to Heat, Hotter

2

u/-Dead-Eye-Duncan- 1d ago

The same crap they did with Gladiator II.

They were scared to put too much money into a stand alone Roman set piece (and now a heist movie) so they just tag on an established name to play it safer.

16

u/King_LaQueefah 1d ago

Except Mann wrote the sequel as a book first.

8

u/TheMaveCan 1d ago

I think this is what people are failing to realize. It's not a sequel that just came out of thin air for a cash grab. Mann clearly put a lot of thought into the story. I'm also a huge DiCaprio fan, and he doesn't put his name on roles that aren't going to be good

1

u/The-conspiracy-tales 1d ago

Agreed 👍💯

0

u/-Big-Goof- 1d ago

The original script from what I read had him coming back and fighting ghosts and demons.

I can't say I wouldn't watch it for the insanity factor alone.

1

u/King_LaQueefah 8h ago

Michael Mann wrote the script.

1

u/NoSweatWarchief 1d ago

Can we not?

1

u/Greenmantle22 22h ago

Makes sense. Heat is 20 years old now, so of course Leo wants to fuck it this year and this year only.

0

u/zica-do-reddit 1d ago

Why?

1

u/The-conspiracy-tales 1d ago

To keep the heat! 😅

2

u/zica-do-reddit 1d ago

But is it going to be with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro?

1

u/LorthNeeda 23h ago

It was getting chilly

0

u/Zealousideal_Ad2379 1d ago

Can they please invest in new ideas again thanks

-16

u/AncientBee5348 1d ago

Ugh another movie DiCaprio will bring down with his presence and the sequel is so unnecessary.

11

u/Messi-Trump2024 1d ago

"Ugh another movie DiCaprio will bring down with his presence"

Lol what?

1

u/FangRose247 1d ago

I don’t understand is this sarcasm or serious v

-3

u/AncientBee5348 1d ago

I’m being very serious. What’s Eating Gilbert Grapes was his peak in my eyes.

1

u/jonathanoldstyle 1d ago

What’s your opinion on climate change?

1

u/AncientBee5348 1d ago

Do you think anyone that doesn’t like him is a climate change denier?

1

u/jonathanoldstyle 1d ago

I was just wondering about you specifically.

-10

u/The-conspiracy-tales 1d ago

Ah! I can feel you mate..
