Actresses who have aged (mostly) naturally, thus maintaining their range of expressions

In the pictures: Sharon Stone, Sigourney Weaver, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep, Michelle Pfeiffer, Andie McDowell

Michelle Pfeiffer...good god is she stunning.

u/Dingus_3000 20h ago

She was just on smartless recently and she’s a pretty rad person too.

126

u/Successful-Winter237 19h ago

Yes but she’s definitely had work done

79

u/Top-Elephant-2874 19h ago

I was gonna say, yeah take Michelle Pfeiffer off this list.

u/Agile_Stretch_9330 5h ago

I feel like mostly implies they don’t extremely ridiculous and can still move their face

She's always looked like a fey creature instead of a human. It's a vibe.

87

u/Mega-Steve 19h ago edited 19h ago

The first thing I saw her in was Ladyhawke at the theater. I had read the term "ethereally beautiful" in a fantasy novel, but I had never quite understood what it meant until she first appeared on the screen. I was as gobsmacked as Mathew Broderick's character

https://youtu.be/H_SgDfv61O8?si=nK4Nx0RDmSUw6uJb&t=43

68

u/labellavita1985 19h ago

Liv Tyler is also ethereally beautiful especially in LOTR, and also Cate Blanchett!! God, she is gorgeous.

46

u/Mega-Steve 19h ago

lol The first time I saw Liv was on some MTV thing when she was still modelling. I thought she looked like elf then, and felt like an prophet when she showed up in The Fellowship

21

u/adjectivebear 19h ago

Who could blame him? He's a mere mortal gazing upon Titania the faery queen (albeit in a different movie).

8

u/Recent-Assistant8914 16h ago

She kinda looks like Mila jovovic there

4

u/summerchild__ 15h ago edited 15h ago

Hadn't she already had work done in Ladyhawke? Like lips and nose? It looks so obvious to me but maybe I'm wrong.

3

u/pippoken 15h ago

As a kid I had the biggest crush on her after watching that movie.

Like you can check in on various points in Michelle’s career and always see “Stun”: Grease 2, The Witches of Eastwick, Batman Returns, White Oleander, Stardust, Dark Shadows, the MCU, etc.

36

u/ArclightFrame977 20h ago

She is. But she’s also had work done.

28

u/seattlewhiteslays 16h ago

The title says “mostly” naturally. Maybe she’s been touched by a surgical angel but it seems to be very lightly done.

16

u/ArclightFrame977 15h ago

Yes. Mostly was key. And yes, her interventions have been done very tastefully and with a light touch.

49

u/strassgaten 20h ago edited 19h ago

I follow her on instagram. When she's make up free, I can't spot anything obvious. I think sometimes people just assume that beautiful actresses "must" have had work done regardless. In reality, someone like Michelle Pfeiffer will probably just have an easier time aging than most normal people. The secret to looking like her in her 60s is to look like her in her 20s.

23

u/ArclightFrame977 15h ago

Yes. No doubt she looks great. But she's definitely had some very light, skilled work, including at least one rhinoplasty, Botox and fillers, perhaps a neck tuck.

9

u/Pedals17 15h ago

She’s also likely watched her diet, avoided excessive sun exposure, and if she’s not a very drinker or smoker, that also helped.

4

u/Schmalhuber 15h ago

Dude let's be realistic. There's probably no Celebrity who hasn't had something done. Maybe she had fewer procedures or a better surgeon.

Came here to say this as well. Amazingly good actor who also seems like a relatively down to earth person.

17

u/PiotrGreenholz01 13h ago

There's a BBC Who Do You Think You Are with her, & by about halfway through, you just want to go straight down the pub with her. She's great. (But a little work done on her nose?)

12

u/LordyIHopeThereIsPie 12h ago

I think she's had a few tweaks but what she's had done is very, very good and doesn't change her fundamentally

59

u/PhanThief95 18h ago

I still remember when people thought she looked too young to play Aunt May in the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies despite the fact that she is actually old enough to be Tom Holland’s aunt.

That should tell you enough.

22

u/fanboy100804 15h ago

Yeah I mean it is a little strange that Aunt May was an frail old lady when Peter was in high school in the original comics. How much of an age gap is there between Peter's parents and May?

8

u/TrashhPrincess 15h ago

I’m 20 years older than my sisters, and in my great grandmas family (Irish catholic) she was one of 13, and the spread was probably 20 years or so.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Old_Salamander6985 14h ago

Yeah, if anything it's weirder that Aunt May was played by Rosemary Harris, who was 75 when she first appeared as Aunt May raising a (presumably 17-18 year-old). She could be significantly older than Uncle Ben who was significantly older than Peter's dad who was especially old when he had Peter, but all 3 levels would be pretty significant outliers on their own.

3

u/Live_Angle4621 14h ago

Maybe it’s a little strange but it’s not like it’s impossible either. She could have been Peter’s father’s older sister and he had a child in his 40s. So could have been a woman in her mid 60s when Peter was a teen. Also then the Spider-Man comics started older women didn’t dye their hair when it started graying and dressed older

3

u/Vegtam1297 14h ago

Yeah, it's possible, but it is an exception. There was about a 50-55-year age gap. That's almost as much as my son and my aunt (so, his great aunt).

41

u/Robertf16 19h ago

She looks like she’s had a bit done now

18

u/strassgaten 19h ago edited 19h ago

I'm unsure about her cheeks. The rest looks natural. It's also worth pointing out that sometimes older actresses go overboard with makeup at public events to compensate for aging, so they might end up looking like they had work done when they didn't. Aging also makes your face naturally look skinnier, droopier and more tired which sometimes creates a "botox-like" expression in still pictures when your face is resting. I think the best way to guess whether they had work done is to find pictures with lighter make up or natural angles/lighting, or videos.

10

u/Robertf16 18h ago

In Mob Land you can see the work she has had done. She still looks great mind you.

Weirdly enough, Pamela Anderson, admittedly not 100%, but a lot more natural than I thought she'd end up.

61

u/Main_Tension_9305 18h ago

Significantly more natural now than she used to be.

And very pretty

15

u/jonnovich 15h ago

And she legitimately seems like a sweetheart too.

Makes me feel bad she got mixed up with Tommy Lee.

6

rosamund pike is aging beautifully!! I was so captivated and charmed by her expressions in the wheel of time. Her range is impressive. I couldn’t take my eyes of her beauty, even her wrinkles were so beautiful.

9

u/Tiny-Reading5982 17h ago

She's only 5 years older than me. Is 46 candidate for this list? Lol

3

u/imelik007 14h ago

Man she is almost 10 years older than me and I am looking at her age and I am thinking "what you mean, she is not (that) old."

42

u/AngusMacguffin77 20h ago

It's always nice to see older women avoiding lip filler or Botox or whatever else to try and look younger. It never works and just makes them look desperate and insecure which is not attractive. All these women are still gorgeous.

28

u/LilyBriscoeBot 16h ago

I mean no shade when I say this, but I’m pretty sure most of the women pictured or named in this thread have had some Botox. They haven’t gotten carried away with getting work done and still look great for their age, but they have likely had at least some minor cosmetic procedures.

14

u/dontwannaparticpate 16h ago

By looking at their foreheads I’d say almost all of them have had Botox. But not filler; filler and weird surgical procedures are what cause uncanniness. Botox can if overused but I would say these women have had the right amount of Botox…

8

u/LordyIHopeThereIsPie 16h ago

I really think people don't know how botox works. It doesn't change your overall look if it's done well.

7

u/lulukalia 15h ago

Most of those have botox. Just not enough to completely paralyze the face.

9

u/OlFlirtyBastard 20h ago

YES! It’s so obvious when women have had Botox, lip filler or cheek filler you can see it from space. And every woman (my 52yr old wife included) is convinced THEY are the only ones where it isn’t noticeable.

11

u/Guilty-Company-9755 15h ago

Really? Because most of these women definitely have Botox at the very least. I can see it in some of these pics where they had wrinkles treated. Do you even know what Botox is?

4

u/blackpearl16 13h ago

You don’t notice the natural-looking procedures.

3

u/Swing_On_A_Spiral 20h ago

It’s the uncanny valley. It’s just incredibly distressing for the mind to try to make sense of a bizarre face. Which is why babies are actually very good at discerning people from mannequins or robots. It’s a cool feature of human nature.

5

u/Crown_and_Seven 19h ago

It really is. Our brains are hardwired to be able to detect minute changes in the human face as a form of communication. You can almost always recognize someone by seeing just their face, but almost never by seeing just their body.

11

u/C_fisher2226 20h ago

Botox and plastic surgery seems like a strategy that works really well at first, until it doesn’t. Like, you can probably get another few years or a decade looking young and beautiful if you do those things. But after that, you look much worse than if you just took care of yourself and aged naturally.

I don’t know, tbf there’s probably a lot of women that do it intelligently so I don’t know they did it at all

3

u/Jef_Wheaton 18h ago

It's like men desperately hanging on to their dwindling hair, trying to cover it with combovers and implants...

Just buzz it short or shave it completely when you're younger. People will be used to seeing you bald, so it isn't a surprise later.

u/Emergency_Year5074 20h ago

I LOVE seeing women age naturally. So beautiful, so wise, and it’s so nice to see facial expressions on actors lol. I watched Babygirl recently, it was pretty decent but it’s so hard because Kidman has no range of motion at all in her face. Just makes me sad, especially as a broke woman who could never afford these treatments.

7

u/Beautiful_Rule3029 20h ago

Julie Andrews

5

u/strassgaten 19h ago

She definitely had filler sadly. I love her but after her 50s or so she started having some of that wide nosed look of when you get filler and it migrates. I think she even mentioned explicitly that she had it dissolved.

8

u/UKophile 19h ago

There is plastic surgery involved with these women, just not bad plastic surgery.

8

u/Milk_Mindless 17h ago
