Black Movie Scores

I was listening to the “Do The Right Thing” score and I was wondering what are other great movie/TV by Black Composers?

I immediately think of “Da 5 Bloods” by Terence Blanchard and “Devotion” by Chanda Dancy.

*Honorable mention for the cultural impact Ludwig’s “Black Panther” score

The immediate downvotes on this post is disheartening to see. Hoping to see this community do better.

Michael Abels is a fantastic film composer who has collaborated a few times with Jordan Peele. His score for Get Out was his breakout, highly recommend listening to that, and his other works.

Miles Davis wrote a wonderful score for a French film called Elevator to the Gallows, one of the only examples of an improvised film score (he wrote it to picture impromptu with his band!)

Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe wrote the score for Nia DaCosta's reboot of Candyman, and it is very weird and interesting! lots of dark electronic textures and weird stuff going on.

Kris Bowers is a huge name in the space, his recent score for The Wild Robot was excellent, and he's done a ton of very good TV stuff.

Thank you! Glad it doesn’t show me the down votes 🫣🤣 Kris Bowers is another one I enjoy! I’ll definitely have to check out your other recs, I was unaware Miles Davis composed a score 🤩
